I was wondering how closely this would follow Cinderella, and while you can see the influence, I was kinda disappointed that the one girl was familiar with the one dude.

but I guess with hundreds of thousands of people living in the city, she still has her work cut out for her when it comes to finding him.

This makes me think of a Creative Writing class I took in college (late 90's, yes I'm old) where the assignment was to modernize a classic fairy tale, and I did Cinderella.

But instead of losing her glass slipper "Cindy Rella" (Yes, I'm clever) lost her pager at a party, and the only way "Prince" knew who his dream girl was was by going classroom to classroom the next day and having each girl use his cell phone to call the pager.

I got a B+

Side note: What's peoples fascination with Cinderella? It's kind of a lame story. I've never seen an adaptation that was particularly interesting. There's loads more interesting princess stories. Hell, it's one of Disney's lower tier films of their classical period.

It's probably the easiest story to update and retell.

Poor girl magically gets rich for a night. Falls in love.

Easier than worrying about a half dozen little people, mermaids, narcolepsy, man-beasts, genies, etc. etc.
