That said Atheism is certainly more common in the modern day. It was probably quite rare centuries or millenia ago.

Makes sense. The more knowledge and power humans have the less likely belief is.

There were probably atheists back then but they were likely very rare. To the point that the authors of the Bible likely didn't even think about them

A lot of people who are atheists now we're deists then because it seemed like the most rational explanation given the available evidence at the time. Deists generally didn't believe in miracles or supernatural interference, but assumed something must have created the universe.

They were probably seen as mentally challenged. In the ancient world most people probably thought you had to be a dumbass to not accept the gods exist

I mean, if you know about the ancient Sumerians and the cuneiform tablets, they talk about a time when the Anunnaki walked among us and lived in cities on Earth. Something like that, if true, would be handed down for many generations and would be deeply ingrained in us to believe in a higher power even when they don't appear to be here any more. That's probably why most people think atheists are weird and sus.
