Yes we all know shrinkflation is a thing but man is this laughable
Here's a regular pack from the late 90s: https://res.cloudinary.com/mynewsdesk-cld/image/upload/t_limit_1000/gphluwkxzldlfdhsnlsd.jpg 567 grams "Family Size" is the US is now 541g https://www.walmart.com/ip/OREO-Chocolate-Sandwich-Cookies-Family-Size-19-1-oz/23658442 And is even smaller in Canada (it's only 500g for the regular ones) Also definitely not the only brand running this "Family Size" BS, I know Lay's is as well. --- ... wasn't the regular pack the only pack (besides the single serving snack size)? I'd argue it was always the family size, they just didn't brand it that way because why would they? sure, it's smaller, but only by a few percent. (and could easily just be an artifact of the new style packaging) this one seems like a stretch, even if the overall trend is actually valid.

Which is ironic since Americans are more family sized than ever before. Probably from individuals who demolish an entire package of Oreos in one sitting, so now they specify it as family size to discourage the idea of eating that many at once. --- Posted from my iPhone 13 ... Copied to Clipboard!

Yes but, they kept shrinking the regular pack and then introduced a "Family Pack" that was just closer to the original regular pack. There's also a "Party Pack" now as well. It's similar with Lay's. The regular bags used to be well over 200g, and with shrinking them over the years they're now down all the way to 165g. Consequentially, they now have a "Family Size" that's only 235g, and a "Value Size" that's 415g. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

in this case, it just all seems like semantics. the old regular pack is the current family pack, it's only the branding that's changed.
shrinkflation isn't about price or size on their own. it's about the ratio between the two. i don't know the old pricing, so i can't comment on that directly. but the company playing around with packaging sizes over 30 years isn't all that unusual. and we still have comparable products, we just have more options, now. --- Boom!
