because it lets you hang stuff up when its still a bit damp, which makes them less prone to wrinkling as long as you put them somewhere they can air dry the rest of the way. plus, baking your clothes fully dry does damage to them.

You know what grinds my gears? Our dryer has sensors to measure the moisture in the air, I assume to turn off if the clothes are dry before the cycle is over. But it doesn't work very well, and it will often stop before the contents are dry.

I'm assuming it's because sometimes clothes air out better when they're dried manually, so by getting them 80% of the way there and letting you hang them up for the last little bit, you're getting that air-dried quality with all the convenience of machine-drying
