  • "QAnon shaman" Jacob Chansley, one of the most notorious figures of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, was sentenced Wednesday to three years and five months in prison for his role in the invasion of the halls of Congress by a horde of Trump supporters.
  • Chansley, who has been held without bail since his arrest in January, pleaded guilty in September to a single criminal count of obstructing a proceeding of Congress.

Because treasonous traitors to the United States deserve the death penalty

George Washington didn't betray the US

Hell be out in 7 months and promptly hired to a "set for life" job with the republicans. Likely on the state level, where the crazies are allowed to buck a bit more than national.

Considering the stuff that happened back in January, their goals, their reasoning, etc

It's not completely unwarranted.

Considering the stuff that actually happened, I think it's pretty silly to say things like "treason" or "insurrection" or "coup"

I think this is a much more accurate description, and there's apparently already a charge to suit it: "a criminal count of obstructing a proceeding of Congress"

The people who committed real violence should be convicted of violent crimes, but the people who merely entered the building and made noise aren't exactly dangerous, just stupid.

It was a riot; a violent protest. To characterize it as anything more than that is just propaganda.

By definition, almost every anti-government or anti-police riot is some form of insurrection. Weird you only use the term to apply to this one and not all of them.

That's not what insurrection means. And some riots do. City government buildings, police stations, etc. have been vandalized or occupied in previous riots.

This one is a higher profile incident, but the nature of the crime is the same.

These light sentences are just saying "Try again if you want. You won't be punished hard." Democrats and the DOJ have dropped the ball AGAIN due to their own cowardice and delusions of bipartisanship.

But that A) didn't have government officials inside B) didn't result in the death of police C) wasn't a capitol building so how is it the same? Just that it was a government building?

Sedition as a civilian can get you up to 20 years. Which is what every person involved should get. Unless they were active military. Sedition under article 94 of the UCMJ is punishable by death, and is what they should be facing.
