Well?

How we feelin?

I havent liked an open world game in a hot minute, and SEGA making the newest addition to my favorites ruined game series open world definitely doesnt do it any favors.

I dont like them as much as I used to. They seem so padded out with nothing just for the sake of having a big world thats generally not all that fun exploring because its mostly fluff.

Elden Ring is about to show the clowns how its done.

If executed well, they're fine or even great. If they're doing it as a substitute for any story, then fuck that shit.

with the exception of R* games (especially RDR2) and BotW, I'm generally not a fan.

like, if the game is good, I can recognize that, but it would likely be in spite of it being an open-world game.

there are also some games that I grudgingly have to accept need to be open-world to best draw from their strengths, like the Spider-Man games and Watch Dogs 2.

They can be good but overall seem like a substitute for actually being fun

As in generally games are either open world or fun, not both

I like them because I actually feel like I'm going on this big grand adventure. It's more enjoyable and gets me into the game more.

Some games do it right (Skyrim, gta, red dead)

a lot of games do it wrong (anything made by Ubisoft, metal gear solid v)

mgsv aint a bad game but it wouldve been better if designed more linear. Lots of the missions were copy paste just like how Ubisoft does it.

a lot of games basically needlessly make an open world game when condensed gameplay would suit it better

Hate them. Any open world game would have been made better more structured. Witcher 2 did it really well IMO.
