How concerned are you about being a victim of identity theft?

I'm always concerned simply because we all may have information that's stored on a server somewhere and for the old school thieves who rummage through garbage cans, they could steal valuable personal information.

Very concerned. Only because it has happened to me several times.

Imagine stealing TCs identity and then realizing it made you homophobic.

I closed my account with TD because I got locked out of my own account, and they wouldnt let me use the password I wanted to use. I told them if somebody wanted my life they could have it.

Not concerned.

Ahem! The new Superman is Bi!

I know that, and you know that, but I fear this mysterious identity thief might lose the ability to tell the difference upon completing the dastardly deed.

Considering it happened to me this year? Very concerned.

What's even more concerning is how much the police don't give a shit about it.

I filed an initial police report once I noticed suspicious activity on my credit report/tracker, before knowing any more details. As the fraudulent bills came in and I worked w/ the businesses to clear things up and got some info on at least one of the scammers (email, phone, IP address used, etc... yes, I'm sure all of it was fake/VPN, but surely it's something of a lead?) I added to the report.
Mid-way thru, one of the businesses wanted a copy of the police report. I had to go through the records department and wait a while (filing the new info in the meantime), and then when I got the report, it said the following:

Case Status:
CLOSED NO ARREST

That was from the initial report, before I could even provide many details. They considered the case closed from the very start. It's been months since I added all of the details to the report and nothing else has been done. It took literally a month of calls to even get the officer to come back and review my new evidence, he apologized and said how busy he had been. I legit think he's the only officer assigned to ID theft in the entire county (ie, I don't blame him, personally). They (police) don't fucking care. At all.

One valuable thing I did learn from all of this is that apparently in 2019 Congress FINALLY did what should've been the law all along: make it free to permanently freeze and then temporarily un-freeze your credit. I thought it still cost money w/ all 3 bureaus to do that, still. So now at least I have that in place, would've done it before if I had known the law had changed.
