Not sure Im feeling this. Vocals are kind of like a weaker version of coheed & cambria (who I love) and the music sounds like heavier Umphreys McGee jams (who I also love) with horns but it doesnt quite gel imo
Sorry to hear that. Not as good as their album Maps of Nonexistent Places or Stranger Heads Prevail but I love their music.

Aww hell yeah. Love seeing Thank You Scientist get some love. Waiting for the vinyl to get to me.
Saw them relatively recently and the show was super small. It was awesome dude, highly recommend.

Id give something else from them a try

i realize the reason Ive heard of them is their association with Coheed, and I did like some of what I heard although it didnt quite all come together

My personal favorites are My Famed Disappearing Act and Mr Invisible. I get their music isnt for everybody, its pretty niche.

Really disappointed with Mayday Parade's album released this year though.

Buffalo Daughter - We Are the Times
I liked this a lot. Never heard of them before but it looks like they were buzzy in the early 2000s, a little before my time. Weird, unique, somewhat experimental but not annoyingly so and still catchy

Ill have to check out more of their stuff

i like BD, but before this one i thought they were a late 90s flash in the pan. turns out they were putting out stuff all along, but not in the US.

Best is still their widely available "New Rock" or "Pshychic". Since this came out, suddenly their whole catalog is available on amazon. turns out Captain Vapour Athletes is also quite good. i listened to the others so you don't have to.

Now i need a rec. I don't want to totally weeb out, but i am having trouble finding an american (or at least anglosphere) equivalent of the sparkly yet rock based stuff that BD plays. what should i listen to?

thought Id hate this after seeing the album art but it was alright. Certainly more metal than the only other j-pop/metal mashup Im familiar with (babymetal obv) but leaned too deathcore for my tastes

Im not part of the niche this music is for though, probably wont go back to it again

plenty of time for new stuff + gaining new appreciation for old stuff

Yeaaaah...sorry. After I listened to the whole album a few times, I agree that there are a lot of sections that need trimming out. Their previous album does the same thing, but to me, to a lesser extent.

just skip the one 20 minute track and its much more manageable

I picked this next because with a name like that I thought it would be some sick heavy doom

so Im somewhat disappointed its symphonic black metal, which generally I find corny, and this wasnt an exception

enough to enjoy here that its probably like a 6/10, but the synths sounded exceedingly cheap to the detriment of everything, like a Bays First Piano or something

First thing that pops into my head with most of these descriptors is John Dwyer, et al - Witch Egg but its instrumental so probably not what you were expecting

maybe Deep Fried Grandeur by Kikagaku Moyo and Ryley Walker

for something heavier maybe The Burden of Restlessness by King Buffalo

Not tc so do what you will with my suggestion but I'd recommend deloused in the comatorium, 2003 record if you're unfamiliar. I think you'd find everything you're looking: abrasive and dissonant guitar riffs, REALLY abstract lyrics, and experimental sound manipulation perfect for the headspace I imagine you're entering. Just my two cents
