She brought me home the breakfast her 7 year olds eat

Milk

pre packaged jelly sandwich

Fruit cup in syrup

Cookie

Cheese stick

A normal 7 year old needs 1600cal/day to maintain their weight and should not be eating added sugar. This breakfast is 1200 calories and has 50g of added sugar.

Wtf

its one part basing the meal off the assumption that anyone coming to school early enough to eat breakfast is probably not getting fed at home, and one part working with a shoestring budget since they're constantly shafted by republicans upset over diet reforms...

It was how they were approaching it. I remember Jamie Olivers campaign being absolutely slaughtered by schools. They made no effort into showing how stuff could be, rather just focusing on "eat more vegetables", "eat healthier foods". Even I have started eating more salads recently, after learning how good they can taste with the right stuff in them. You can't just hand a kid some celery sticks and expect him to eat it, if all he has known is crap food.

You start small and work your way up. The major issue with these people is that they are going straight for the jugular rather than injecting some good food into the system and building it up slowly.

Jamie Oliver immediately got the UK government to ban Soda and Candy from schools. Do you know what that does to kids who are addicted to that stuff and love that stuff? It makes them go mental and try to get it another way. There was one kid I think he was on the Steve Harvey show, or one of those shows, where he made tens of thousands of dollars selling sweets after his school banned them all.

Start small, introduce a system similar to how Costco introduces new items. Give samples to those coming into the lunch room, or go to their individual classrooms just before lunch to offer samples, and get kids to taste the stuff before it becomes a regular thing. Bend their will before you break their will.

The crazy part is the US spends more on education per student than any other country in the world but the end product is not very good (mediocre food and facilities, test scores well below other developed nations, etc.). At least when they get hosed on the insane costs of healthcare Americans can say the end product is among the best in the world. With education it's just a disaster. At least they learn to worship flags, important life skill.

Lol at 600 calories it would have to. The bread wouldn't be more than 200 for both slices and there's no way there's 400 calories of jelly on there. It'd be like a sloppy joe

That's based on percent of GDP. It spends the most per student in terms of actual amount*. The quality of the actual healthcare product in America is among the best in the world, the system is not. The education in America is bad both in terms of the system and the outcomes, despite spending more.

Maybe if they called her fatphobic the left would give them sympathy. Face it, if it hadn't been against her, people would be up in arms about body shaming the fat kids.

OT, a cookie for breakfast and a fairly plain sandwitch with more calories than a 7-11 BLT, seems like someone's trying to be fancy instead of buying, you know, cereal, like most people eat for breakfast.

That actually sounds about right, though the milk is kind of high. Is it full fat?

200 calories for bread alone. PB is in average close to 200 calories per serving/tablespoon. Jam can be +200 calories if it's around 100g.
