Fastest 3 and a half hours in film history.

Every scene has so much fucking tension. Pacino, Pesci and De Niro are just mesmerizing.

Did you not watch the final 45 minutes which shows the complete opposite of that?

Usual mob flick with the go-to set of overcast actors.

It's great. A lot less glamorous and more bleak than the other Scorsese gangster movies. Stephen Graham deserves some props as well.

You can sort of watch it as a miniseries.

Seriously, at no point in the entire movie did I wish I was Frank Sheeran. Anyone saying its a typical mob flick either hasnt seen it or completely missed the point.

It's not perfect specifically because they chose to use the same actors for scenes in the past and their makeup was laughable.

Imagine if Coppola tried use Brando in Godfather II?

Right. There's no real big scenes of him or other gangsters living it up besides maybe the banquet. You don't see Frank bragging about money and buying expensive things like in Goodfellas. You don't see him hanging out in swanky nightclubs, restaurants, and casinos wearing super nice suits like in Casino. Nobody is really that happy in The Irishman. Frank is cold towards his family resulting in his daughters being scared of him and not having much or anything at all to do with him. Russell has no kids and tries to win over Peggy's affection, but never does. Jimmy has constant problems and never gets his union back and is killed by a close friend of his. Everyone ends up being murdered or in jail withering away pathetically. Frank is totally alone and forgotten in his nursing home at the end.

All of Scorsese's gangster films show how in the end crime is not worth it and will just bring you pain and misery, but TI takes it to a different level.

I still haven't seen The Irishman, but Stephen Graham is a great actor. I have yet to see anything from him I don't like. Him playing Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire was amazing.

I honestly disagree.

it feels like the same old Scorsese movie, with all of the narration, but it's not as compelling as a bunch of his other works, IMO.

the typical mob movie feels played out, and outside of the weird technology that was used to de-age the characters, the movie came off as being outdated, for me.

I really like how they'd add text under certain characters, even background ones, telling their eventual fates. We even get to see one's, which was some cool sort of foreshadowing. Another way of showing how the mob isn't as fun and glamorous as it's thought to be.

Yes! He knocked it out of the park there. He's one of the best things in the show. He's pretty damn good in TI too.

Right in the middle. Beautiful. Speaking of that meeting, I really liked this exchange.

"Definitely"

i really enjoyed it but i don't remember it very well. maybe it needs a rewatch, or maybe the scenes just aren't iconic enough.

either way, i wouldn't call it the best mob movie, but it's really really good.
