Everywhere seems short staffed, meals take longer to come out, general quality has gone downwards.

I'm actually not complaining though, seems like the pandemic was the catalyst for people have finally got a fucking clue that getting paid minimum wage to work long hours and be screamed at over soup temperature is simply not worth it.

I was in a restaurant a few weeks ago and some dick was screaming at the waitress about his salad, and she just went out back, got her bag, and literally walked out.

It was amazing to watch. The guy didn't say a word to the staff for the rest of the night.

Oh sorry, I thought you were talking about nursing care facilities for a moment there...

Yeah. I've stopped just short of telling quite a few guests they are damn fools if they somehow don't expect this at my place just like everywhere else.

That's the beauty of being a longtime employee at a place that is really shorthanded. The bosses don't want to end up with even fewer workers, so if your patience for customer BS drops or disappears entirely the bosses hands are tied.

At a guess, was like 19-21.

It really doesn't follow you. I've walked out of multiple jobs before and it has never even come up.

I know a guy who got fired for stealing from his boss's house while housesitting for him. It didn't seem to hurt his future jobs.

I don't know how it works in America but over here reference checks rarely involve any further questions, they just confirm the dates you worked there and move on. Too many legal issues arise with people giving negative references.

Its the same in America. They cant call your previous employer and ask about your performance or anything like that. Thats what references are for. They can ask you but you can just make some shit up about why you ended your work there.

People mostly act this way due to entitlement, our service industry treats customers far to well. If they aren't being paid extra to do so then they have no reason to accept anyone's disrespect. And managers should halve their employees back everytime.

It's mental to me that a person can hold a business ransom over a bad review on trip advisor, lol

This, plus referencing is rarely even carried out. Out of the ten jobs I've had, only two have actually checked my references. As a manager I never contacted references, nor was I ever encouraged to do so by head office.

And yeah, on top of that, leaving jobs off a resume is a normal practice.

A background check doesn't mean shit. As for job resume, good luck proving the reference I give you for a particular job is actually who I say they are.

And just for clarification, the vast majority of people that do the hiring aren't being private investigators and digging that deep into everything that is on a resume or said in an interview.

No it won't. Atleast not that. It would have to be really significant. Like stealing, sexually harassing a co-worker, assault, etc. Walking off, rather cooling off from an asshole customer? Management will understand, a bit angry, but understand. Worst she will get is some talk.
