He knows his wife is dead and they explain why hes hearing his wife and hes not really that stupid yet he still goes all the way to the gate to break it.

I mean his son, daughter, and all relatives of his wife are clearly explaining it and he knows shes dead......

1) he's heavily deluded because of grief and
2) the evil monster is doing a good job at corrupting him

Who would have thought someone wrapped up in supernatural things would think something supernatural was happening?

I would assume it's because he had been constantly hearing her voice for months at that point. Obsession and delusion are a dangerous combo. I mean, the man clearly didn't process grief well. He spent a decade training his son to kill his wife's killer.

So, the thought of getting the love of his life back, was the only thing driving him. He was willing to kill his son for it (Shang Chi definitely would have died in that lake if the great protector didn't help him). So who cares if he frees some demons in the process, he was getting his wife back.

Why does he even have a gang or train his son at all? Hes Lord of the Rings and can do way more easier and is immortal.

Is this a serious question? He's still only one person and can't be everywhere at once.

If he knew where both of his kids were, why did he need to orchestrate Shang Chi seeking his sister out? Why not capture them both separately and not risk them traming up?

Why even get them on board. Just grab their pendants and fuck off. Your kids dont like you.

This reads like you didn't actually watch the movie. He ran an international criminal organization, with all that entails.

They liked their mom though, and he at one point cared for his kids so he thought he was doing them a favor by letting them see her again? Honestly you could just chalk it up to "love/emotions make people stupid."

But then he doesnt let all of his existing families logic and emotions stop him from breaking the demon door.

Theres literally no reason to think shes behind the gate. Like at all. They explain it many times to him.

This is a silly complaint.

My only complaint was the annoying Marvel humor fell flat most the time, especially the airplane gag after a serious retelling of his past.

This is a silly complaint.

-You physically saw your wife die and her dead body and grieved her death.

-You think shes behind a demon gate. Im sure she even told you whats behind the gate.

-Her whole village explains the voices and reason for it.

-Your children are actively reasoning with you and fighting with you for the same reasons.

He literally doesnt even explain what he thinks is behind the gate. Her soul/spirit?

The voice isnt even explaining anything to him.

Hes insane. He was insane before he met her. Losing her just made him fall deeper into the depths of insanity. When you arent thinking clearly and in a state like that, doesnt matter who tells you what, you only believe yourself.

Reminder that he already lived how many hundreds of years? That alone would take a toll on you.

Yes and everyone believes everything, everyone says to them, regardless of their personal feelings about it right? If thats the case, why are there still QAnon believers?

It's clearly a spell by the demon. Didn't think that needed explaining. The leader of the village even says many people have been lured there before. It probably seeks powerful people who have lost someone and messes with their mind. Grief already makes someone irrational. The demon seemingly plays on that with its magic.

Lucky for those mobsters Xu didnt believe in any security what so ever. They could just walk right up to his family and kill them. How convenient.

I think he just sort of assumed that his adversaries would respect his wishes to leave the criminal world behind and let him live a peaceful life :3

But in all seriousness his wife could kick his ass so he probably thought that she could hold her own.

The father overall doesn't really feel that well written to me. You don't really get a feel for his 1000 years, you don't really get a feel for the comfort he found in her, the brief connection they had as a family seems completely overshadowed to the point where it shouldn't even be relevant, and he's ultimately replaced by a mindless monster that doesn't get much development.
