I have not been following this situation. So this does not became a part of the debate . Let's just say everything that said about her was true and she hates trans people. Why protest her ?

Like there are ton of a bigots in the world, protesting her just being a bigot isn't going to help anything. It would be one thing if she beat up trans person are is in parliament , but she isn't she is just some old lady complaining.

She's not just any transphobe. She's also one with a considerable amount of influence and prestige, and she's used it to prop up other transphobes.

So if your argument is "there are a lot of bigots, why target one" it's because the intent is to oppose the more powerful of them to have the most effect.

The problem is that she uses her platform to espouse her transphobic beliefs, and she is the patron of multiple women's charities, which isn't great when trans-women have enough trouble accessing the help they need, without people like Rowling trying to exclude them.

The main issue is just she's a TERF. But the bigger problem is JK Rowling is also full of herself and craves attention. So when she shared TERF stuff and people on twitter disagreed with her, she decided to double down.

and then double down again, by releasing a whole ****Ing essay about how she's the real victim and trans women are evil and blah blah blah generic TERF talking points that are either disingenuous or BS.

And then doubled down again by releasing a bestseller entirely based around trans-panic BS.

Also this. Rowling has just shy of 14 million twitter followers. That means she can spread her transphobic junk to more people than there are in Belgium. Or for a different example, that's more people than there are in Pennsylvania, the 5th highest populated state in the US.

so the problem is she's spouting off toxic ideologies towards a minority group, to a huge audience, where she is in a position of respect amongst many of them, and every time someone tries to educate her or explain the issue or whatever, she doubles down on the awful rhetoric.

Weird.

First I didn't get upset with HARRIS using actors. If you are going to lie about me at least get the situation correct. I rolled my eyes at the situation. The fact that it was played as real kids and not just actors, was stupid. In fact when people were complaining about the ad from the get go. Other people defended it thinking the kids were not actors. Therefore it is a clear that the play was to make this seem like real kids and fool people. And even with that harris came off wooded and stuff. This is like the second time you have lied about that. So what if your fucking deal. This has nothing to with the topic at hand. Harris tried to used actors to humanize her. She failed. I said the whole thing was stupid months ago and you are still bring it up. For what . Now chuckles, when Trump lied about his crowd size I talked about that too.

As for as this case. There are a to of a bigots who are lot more powerful than she is . But most people don't protest them randomly. So asking why she is being targeted is not an odd question.

But if you do it at his home, that isn't sending a message that just giving people ammo to used on you. Beyond that what is the end game there.

Obviously they should be doing it more, but plenty of us speak out against the vile rhetoric and laws they are pushing through this very moment. To act like because three people posted her publicly available address that is used to boost tourism means nothing else happens is asinine.

I never denied that. But it's not "entirely based" around it. That dude was a minor character, cis-gender, and not even the main antagonist. You'd have to be exceptionally daft to think that was some play at transgender folk and not just another cartoon character making people drop their guard by batting fake eyelashes.

It was a jab at transgender folk, yes.

But I did go back and see that the bulk of this argument arose from the guy who said it was specifically about the one killer.

For what it's worth I did say "a killer" and not "the killer". You know, because fucking English language and degrees of specificity.

The thing is, cj, JK Rowling is one of the biggest anti-trans figures in Britain. And with her basically having a free pass to smear trans women as predatory rapists using femininity to prey on cisgender women, she's furthering a radical anti-trans narrative that continues to grow in Britain.

At the start of the month, there was a BBC article about how trans porn stars were pressuring cisgender lesbian performers to have sex with them - an article that was led by cis performers and which featured no input from any trans performers or agencies to refute what was being said. One of the lead voices showcased in the article was from a performer who has been openly calling for the mass murder of trans women - the Wachowskis, Kaitlyn Jenner and other famous trans celebs, but also urging people to attack any trans people they see. She's outright said "trans people should be lynched". That's the sort of voice the BBC has seen fit to amplify, which should tell you the sort of situation Britain is in.

Source: https://www.starobserver.com.au/news/lesbian-porn-star-lily-cade-calls-for-lynching-of-trans-woman-after-bbc-article-backlash/206787

For another example - you might know about Laurel Hubbard, a transgender weightlifter from NZ who competed at the Tokyo Olympics to much outrage and consternation over her "natural advantage". This woman has been smeared as this disingenuous cheater, setting records in the women's divisions that cis women could never hope to accomplish - despite the fact that Laurel Hubbard lifted weights in men's divisions for years after her transition, which is where she was setting those records, and that when she competed in Tokyo she didn't even place.

So with that context, look at this screenshot:

The majority of reactions about her competing, mind you, were negative. So you can imagine what the bulk of that Twitter activity was.

And finally, the TERF situation in relation to public toilets has been heated for years, to the point that cisgender women have been confronted and escorted out of women's bathrooms for looking too masculine. There are recent reports talking about it in Britain, like this one:

https://inews.co.uk/news/uk/butch-lesbian-public-toilet-women-abuse-government-review-gender-neutral-facilities-833787

And here's a couple from the lead-up to the 2016 US elections, where multiple cisgender women in America were harassed out of public toilets due to transphobic abuse - which I bring up because this sort of attitude has been happening for a good while now:

https://www.advocate.com/business/2015/06/17/detroit-woman-kicked-out-restaurant-bathroom-looking-man-sues

https://www.newstimes.com/local/amp/Woman-mistaken-for-transgender-harassed-in-7471666.php

I bring up the fact that these women are cisgender because it shows that trans panic doesn't just target trans people. The hate becomes so overblown and vitriolic that cisgender women, women who were assigned female at birth, get targeted in public bathrooms due to transphobic attitudes coming to a boil.

So if you've been reading, you can follow that transphobia in Britain is at a fever pitch right now. We've covered how trans panic doesn't just target trans women. And now, we should put JK Rowling's influence on this in perspective.

Not only is JK Rowling one of the most celebrated children's authors of her generation, she's got 14.5 million Twitter followers - as someone else mentioned, that's more than the population of Belgium. She's venerated in her home country, meaning that when she talks, people listen. In the building backlash against transgender people in Britain, JK Rowling emerged as one of the most prominent voices of this movement, exposing the TERF movement to a broader audience - in the wake of her initial transphobic tweets, "TERF" became the most searched term on Google:

https://www.india.com/viral/terf-becomes-the-most-searched-query-on-google-after-jk-rowlings-anti-trans-tweets-heres-what-it-means-4055490

Which put a lot of eyes on that movement, and helped to legitimize it to a wider audience through her endorsement.

So we've talked about how she has more followers than a small country, but let's keep that figure localised to Twitter. How popular is she on Twitter, and how much reach can she really have?

Well, for starters, Twitter has 400 million accounts. Some of them are bots, some of them are inactive, some of them don't do jack shit. But regardless, there are 400 million Twitter accounts.

JK Rowling's Twitter account is #182 in the world in terms of followers.

Her Twitter account has more followers than the fucking Associated Press.

https://www.trackalytics.com/the-most-followed-twitter-profiles/page/8/

So let's sum up the info.

The TERF movement has been on the rise globally, with trans-related bathroom attacks happening as far back as 2016 in the lead up to the US election. This movement was later legitimized in the eyes of many through the endorsement of JK Rowling, whose endorsement caused the term "TERF" to become the most searched term on Google in the wake of her transphobic comments.

Since her endorsement of this group, the anti-trans fervor in Britain has only been escalating, with cisgender women being confronted for using public restrooms and the BBC featuring personalities who are openly calling for trans people to be lynched.

With international fame, and the reach that her 14.5 million Twitter followers has, JK Rowling acts as a figurehead of the TERF movement and normalises transphobia in the aforementioned ways. Her influence on the public perception of transgender people is far-reaching and important, and that's why people are protesting JK Rowling.
