The sequel trilogy and season 2 of the Mandalorian have shown that Disney is having difficulties moving on and doing its own thing. The series seems stagnant in terms of creativity.

Rebooting the series did wonders for the James Bond series, giving the series some of its highest grossing and most critically acclaimed entries it has ever produced. Perhaps this is the jumpstart that Star Wars needs. A fresh start. Do whatever you want.

What do you think?

Yes.

When you've fucked up as spectacularly as they have, there's no moving on. They're much better off to hit the reset button. Make Han a Black man and Luke a woman. Redesign Palpatine to look like Trump.

But put some fucking effort into it. Star Wars was not only imaginative, it was well-paced. It's stories reached logical conclusions. It's characters were memorable and fun.

Above all else, they should remember that Star Wars is a fantasy story with a science fiction paintjob. Just having a bunch of people in helmets shooting lasers is missing the point. Star Wars's nearest comparison isn't Star Trek; it's Lord of the Rings.

Just do a story that's detached from the fucking movies. Something in a different time and place but still in that universe

Such an easy idea but they can't not fuck it up

Eh, could just as easily start setting stuff in the large expanse of thousands of years before Episode 1. It's so far removed from the movies they could do anything and it wouldn't clash or cause inconsistencies.

Or just do more "what-if" multiverse stuff like they did with Marvel maybe.

As much as I don't like the Star Wars movies (not even the original trilogy anymore), there's no reason to dumpster them and start over yet.

Rumor is there is a movie or trilogy planned set thousands of years in the past

Every new trilogy lives in the shadow of the originals. They need a clean slate. New ideas, new cast, new direction. Cut the umbilical cord.

The problem is they are trying that. Withwhat ever the High Republic is now. Which has had a lukewarm reception. Partly because they are marketing it oddly and that there is no cohesion at Lucasfilm. Everyone is a satellite project to keep things secret, because its Star Wars!

They're never going to grow the fanbase if they keep making films that are tied to the bagged of the original series.

Make a film set 1000 years apart or something and sell it on its own merits.

It's not like the MCU's primary audience is comic nerds. It's people who are meeting these characters for the first time and developing an attachment to a new franchise.

Visions set up a bunch of cool things if almost any one of them was made canon and explored deeper. They have ideas. Theyre just for whatever reason insisting on being stuck in that era.

Exactly. A clean slate is what they need. So that they can do whatever they want.

What would be recognizably Star Wars-y about it apart from the words "star" and "wars" tacked onto the title, though?

Isn't there like 10,000s years in this universe? You don't have to reboot anything. Just step away from the main source and have some f'n fun with it. All you need is awesome fights, fun characters, space wars and lightsaber battles.

The best they can do at this point is just make spinoffs to elevate the lore of the sequel trilogy. Like how Clone Wars had to pick up the slack of the prequels.

Most of the payoff of the story is tied to *KOTOR SPOILERS* Is that you're the big bad you've been told about the entire time. Could it work on screen, sure, but I feel like it'd need to be a second film reveal or something and I doubt any higher ups would give the greenlight for a relative gamble like that. Not to mention if it was a retelling/retread of the existing story then everybody going in is going to know anyways
