I've been traveling a lot the past few weeks and I'm watching Curb and Succession. I didn't get a chance to catch up on the last two episodes for each show until last night.

Don't get me wrong, love both shows. But sometimes I feel that watching a show as it's airing is a requirement to avoid spoilers. Less-so with Curb of course, but the point remains.

Sunday afternoon I got home, unpacked, and was like alright I have to watch Succession now. Like it was a negative thing. Even though it's a great show.

"Chore" isn't the right word - more like "requirement" or "obligation."

It's different when you're watching something that's new to you and isn't airing anymore. With those you can just go at your own pace since spoilers are much less likely.

I haven't had cable TV for 10 years. Can't stand commercials and watching things on their schedule.

I don't watch Succession, and have no idea what it's about.

Even in the age of social media, avoiding TV spoilers is very easy.

There's literally dozens of TV shows airing right now that I have no idea what the storyline is.

I get that. Lately I feel like I've finally reached the point where I'm watching too many shows at the same time. I wish they would stop putting out so many good shows so I didn't feel like I need to see all of them ASAP

There's no real reason why anything other than sports needs to be watched "live", and even that's not too important.

Oh yeah no and i'm not even talking about cable, i'm just talking streaming.

Every time I go to a hotel, I'm reminded how awful cable is. Sped-up programming, constant ads, ads that are fucking LOUD, etc.

People may complain about how many streaming services there are, but even if you're paying a 1:1 ratio for all streaming platforms vs. cable, you're still way ahead.
