In 10-15 years baseball will become irrelevant.

Soccer will become #3 for sports (in the US)

I find hockey gets the biggest boost in enjoyment by watching in person. then baseball. basketball is a wash and the NFL is arguably better on TV.

Baseball is definitely better in person

Never been to a hockey game but everyone says it's great in person so I believe it

NFL is much better on TV unless you have like, prime 50 yard line seats at club level or a hair lower. Even then it's hard to compete with TV. NFL has it down when it comes to watching on TV (except when they don't show the phantom defensive hold on third and 19)

It's already irrelevant. The only reason people still pay attention is because of the sunken cost fallacy. They've put in so many years of rooting for teams and buying merchandise that they don't want to give it up and feel like it was all a waste.

The younger generations don't give a fuck about baseball, its popularity is already plummeting, and as the older generations of fans die off they're not being replaced by younger ones.

Doesnt surprise me. Baseball has no salary cap and its beginning to get weird. Max Scherzer just signed with the Mets for 130 million over 3 years. Which equals out to about 43.33 million a year.

Thats more than some teams whole roster for one pitcher. How do you ever compete with that?

Hopefully this lockout will force teams into paying for players and attempt to be competitive. As of now, teams like the Marlins and Pirates are incentivized to stink it up so that they can pocket the shared revenue from bigger markets. They underpay players who are good when they get them, of course.

Damn, you right, mind lapse, I forgot about hockey.

I seriously haven't watched a full game in a while, I only keep up with baseball because I listen to sports radio during commute to work. (98.5 TheSportsHub Boston)

That was a strike rather than a lockout. Sort of the same thing, but a lockout is initiated by the owners rather than the players.

They both have a good chance of doing so with how much steam baseball is losing

Baseball needs superstars to get casuals to watch like the NBA or NFL has

Baseball losing steam doesnt really matter when youre comparing it to sports that never had any steam to begin with and havent shown any significant growth in years.

International soccer will never overtake because of the time difference and the MLS is almost to its championship and I've seen no coverage of it at all on TV.

Also, I believe that while baseball has lost ratings nationally it's actually gaining ratings in most of their team's local markets.

The owners can go fuck themselves for how much they charge to go to a baseball game. I know all sports cost a significant amount of money to attend these days, but baseball is the only one currently in a lockout.

The Marlins shouldn't be placed in the same category as the Pirates. They just gave a contract to their ace and made a couple of minor signings so far. They actually do appear to be trying to win or at least putting themselves on the path to winning. They just aren't going to spend 43 million dollars on one guy like the Mets just did.

Salary caps are bad. All you are doing is putting more money into owners pockets. Just because some owners want to be cheap every player should be punished for it? BS.

they should always be tied to a percentage of revenue. but honestly, it's a salary floor that is desperately needed.

honestly, just copy/paste the nhl's structure, and make it work with the league's finances.
