There are tutorials all over the web and even on YouTube. Tailor it to what youre applying to as best you can. Add a little space for basic office software if you have any. If youve done odd jobs and know how they operate, then embellish self employment and eat up modest date gaps with untraceable work. But mostly keep it light so its truthful; youre a fresh slate eager to learn a trade or gain valuable experience.

Thats also something thats desirable. Youll have to sell yourself in the interview a bit more since your resume will speak to your inexperience. Sell eagerness and excitement and know about the company enough so you can speak specifically about the type of experience youre anxious to gain there. Good luck.

Perhaps the best approach is verbal communication. If youre just looking to submit online, you may not have much success. These early jobs often require the personal touch. You may need to hit the pavement and when you speak with someone, tell them. Your resume is a blank piece of paper. What should I do? I bet more than one place will drop their guard at that vulnerability. I dunno what kind of jobs youre chasing. If its McDonalds or Walmart, I cant say. Theyre megacorps and you dont really matter. Im speaking more to the local places.

And also, think outside the box. Theres a lot of variety out there. Wanna try pest control? Its just a test and having a license. Call around. Maybe youll luck out. Wanna try landscaping? Entry level chef work? You can pick a vocation, make 5-10 calls and see if you get lucky. Theres actually work out there.

Next time be sure to say typist, not typer. And you definitely should learn some Excel. Its a powerful program, and most people use only a fraction of its capability.

Can you do any kind of volunteer work to gain some experience and get some references?

I hire a lot of data entry people. I essentially just look for stable employment and have them take a quick test to see what they can do. Certain backgrounds tend to do better, so if I have a choice that's what I'm going to try to bring in first.

The guy that used to hire for it, had dumb prereqs like they need office experience and some college. My best employees tend to come from a manufacturing/assembly line type of job. They're happy to just sit and are used to repetitive labor. Second place tends to be waitresses/bartenders because they also need to have a background of paying attention. They like that they can just kind of sit and work while no one bothers them.

In your case, you might want to put something about watching every episode of dbz. The repetitive nature and your ability to stick with something for hours on end transfers to boring entry level jobs like this.

Lol I should have just gotten familiar with Excel before I applied. There was a 15 minute skill test but I didn't do it.

So Imma get familiar with Excel for a while then apply for another data entry job :)
