There's nothing about comedy that can only go in one of two boxes, unless you have a really surface perception of comedy. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you actually known this and just made this topic in reaction to something specific without actually thinking of it making you look like you don't understand comedy at all. You can enjoy Comedy in a non-complex way, but don't come at others like they're doing it wrong because they understand subtleties that can either detroy the humor in the joke or elevate it to an even more potent level of humor.

Most humor these days is reactionary. But if you're reacting to something with a response like "They don't like being called bitches, so it's funny when I call them bitches" it's not gonna hit like a joke that exposes systemic issues that's been going on for 100s of years. Which can still be offensive on the surface tbf. Because you can keep digging into the latter joke and finding ways it works and exposed truths. While, the former is just on the surface and there's nowhere to go by digging into it. It's offensive because there was no other reason for it to exist other than to be offensive. There's no art or self awareness in it. You just think you're doing what great comedians are doing, which is being edgy. But you don't understand how their product actually works on the inside. You're building a shell of it and calling it just as good. Which reasonably, people see through and realize there's no merits, it's just offensive.

Obviously there's people who don't understand this on both political sides tho. If you want to make it political. And this is just one small thing about a much bigger picture. I don't even know if I covered the right topic, because comedy is so complex and I kond of just got lost in one my rants lol

Of course a joke being tasteful and/or clever matters. Thats what im getting at. Being offensive for the sake of being offensive is not funny. If theres a clever take on a sensitive subject, I welcome that in all forms.

I was absolutely devastated when Kobe Bryant died, but when someone said Well, at least Kobe finally passed. as a basketball fan I lost my shit.

I'm not a fan of that. Just cause it's too real in the moment. I'm not even a basketball fan. But it takes a douchey person to be like "This is my time to be funny and get attention on me". So, even of it's clever, the person comes off way to try hard because they are being try hard givin the circumstances. I also wouldn't call for someone to be cancelled over it tho.

You also did something else that extremely annoys me in the post. You cut out the idea that someone can be offended because of something that doesn't actively effect them. It just makes you look super self absorbed that you don't even factor that in. I actually find jokes funnier when I am the butt of the joke. But that doesn't mean I can't understand it's hurtful to someone else and not all these people go out seeking it to complain about it. It comes to their door
