This is the 140th Anniversary Ginza Boutique Limited Edition (limited to 3500 pieces). It's my first mid-range price Seiko and I am totally in love with it! Check the pics to see how it works on a leather strap too (I love the look).

This is a Seiko Prospex, I've been interested in them for a while but none of them made me pull the trigger, until this one was announced last September. It has a beautiful cobblestone (commemorating the street in front of the historical Ginza boutique) dial with offsetting blues, offering a stunning contrast. The dial changes depending on how the light hits it. Case size is super wearable at 38mm! I'm incredibly impressed with the value for money with this particular piece. It's got:

-A fully in-house 70 hour power reserve Seiko movement (made in Japan)
-A see-through caseback with a decently finished movement
-200m water resistance with a screw down crown
-Comfortable bracelet with polished chamfers for a contrast look and twin trigger clasp
-Date function
-Hacking seconds (seconds stop when crown pulls out)
-Manual wind option

A Swiss equivalent of this watch would be 2-3k+ easily! I know $750 is an amount of money most of you wouldn't part with for a watch, but I assure you this one with it's specs is a watch you could wear every day for the rest of your life without looking at any other pieces. The dial really steals the show for this piece, I see myself staring at it a lot more than I do with pieces I own that cost more than 10x as much.

@No_U_7 's recent topic gave me the idea to post my most recent watch purchase to CE.

I'm curious! What are your thoughts?

Your cheap automatic Seiko lost 1 second a day? That's actually amazing performance for a cheap automatic Seiko. Tolerances are within 30 seconds for those models. 1 second a day is even on the tighter side of COSC or METAS, not sure what you're expecting! My Seiko has loose tolerances (approx. 20 seconds a day), but luckily mine is only just 3 seconds fast.

I mean yeah, the Hamilton Khaki King is an absolute classic and is very hard to beat at that price. It does have some downsides though, namely a low power reserve 38 hours? Could be wrong. And I think the movement in it can break if you set the day/date between 10pm and 3am. All things considered still fantastic field watch for the price though. I'm just not a fan of the aesthetic, but that's obviously subjective.

UT1999 posted...
oh my mistake, it lost like a minute a day.

Okay that's definitely too much. It's unlikely that it's magnetized, since that usually makes the movement go faster, and it's likely too cheap a watch to service.

Yeah, I thought you'd like this considering the size and color. Great vacation piece for me, when I don't want to bring something too expensive with me, and still keep the watch on when going for a swim.

Wanna know the longest a smart phone survived in my possesion? 4 years, and that's a personal record. Wanna know how long this watch will stay in my possesion? Probably until I die, where one of my daughters will inherit it, and maybe she'll pass it down to her child. Talk about one of the most sustainable objects huh? A watch isn't just about telling time, that's what people don't get. It's about having something that looks and feels nice, and makes you happy. I get it when people like you don't like wear watches, it makes sense from a purely pragmatic point of view, but who gives a shit about pragmatism? Emotional value is what defines us, so I think we should embrace what makes us happy, rather than think of what we need and what we don't.

$575 is the Seiko Presage version, this is the Prospex version. They were released together, the Presage has a vastly inferior movement, 50m water resistance (vs the 200m on this one), no screw down crown, and a gaping hole in the dial that completely ruins the star of the show (cobble stone dial!)

Edit: Nvm, you edited your answer

For me it really depends where I go. In September I went to Lake Como, Italy with my wife and our 2 girls and brought my Rolex with me. It's an appropriate location for that kind of watch. We only went on 2 or 3 hikes and swam in the pool. The rest was just lunches and dinners with the family. When I go motorcycling or on other more active trips, I'll bring my Seiko SKX though!

The dial on that is certainly unique. I can see the appeal and if it's anything like other limited edition seikos it'll hold its value well. 38mm is the perfect diameter for watches too imo, just wish the case was a bit thinner, 13mm is on the bulkier side.

Big fan of seiko watches in general, I own a couple myself, though they're the cheaper SNA/SKX models. All time favorite still has to be my Hamilton Navy Pioneer though :)

I own a lot of watches myself(it is a passion, after all), but a lot are cheaper digital watches and quartz and some "toy" watches from the Vannen company, but I do own a nice Hamilton Viewmatic auto

https://www.watchnation.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/153369352.jpg

Picked it up a year ago for 550. It has everything the watch in the OP has except it has a 50M WR, not 200. So outside of washing my hands it doesn't get wet.

Dial looks better in person. It's a great watch. There is something to owning an automatic you don't get with quartz or phones...there is a personal connection to it because you are the power source.

That is the one criticism I hear people talk about. I've read on reviews that it's a compromise that had to be made to ensure the water resistance. If the case was thinner, it would have to be around 100m or less, at which point it wouldn't be a Prospex (Professional Specifications) model anymore.

There are several of these that are already being sold on Chrono24 for $1200+. Seems stupid at the moment as you can still find them for close to retail. But in a couple of months it'll be hard to find them at retail

That Hamilton is easily in my top 3 Hamilton watches. Beautiful design!

oh i see you post in topic number 24. It actually has a power reserve of 80 hrs. How many hrs is your new watch? yeah they lowered the beat frequency in that hamilton so it would do 80 hrs of power reserve. So the seconds hand doesnt' sweep as smoothly as a eta 2824. First i heard of it breaking if you set it between 9 and 3, though.

Okay, the date thing is true and can be problematic. Basically, the wheel rotates to change the date when it is time slowly, so when it is engaged, usually from 9PM to 3AM, quick setting the date can harm it.

All you need to know is if the hour hand is pointing down, it is okay to set the date quickly. If not, just turn the crown to set the date slowly and then set the time.

Really, the best way to set the time and date to avoid any problems is to turn the hands so the hour hand is in the bottom half of the thing, quick change to two days before the current date, and then manually turn the crown to get it exact from there on.

I hope I explained that properly...

This is a common thing on automatic watches with a date wheel. My Hamilton advises also to not do this in the manual. Most watch manuals should say similar.

Ohh okay, the 80hr power reserve movement. That's the one that was first released in the Swatch Sistem 51 and then in various Tissot watches, later into other models within the Swatch group like your Hamilton. It's a really solid movement actually. I'm not even sure this particular movement suffers from the date change problem I mentioned. My new Seiko has 70 hrs of power reserve, which is a sweet spot as it can survive through the weekend.
