@ZevLoveDOOM

what about super mario 3d world bowser fury, is it one of the must haves on that list?
Bowser's fury is great. Almost worth the $60 on its own. Just a solid 3D Mario. Nothing amazing but great.

Today's bump. Question. What's the point of the elemental jewelry like Sapphire Circlet etc? It doesn't seem to offer more armor than their set equivalent. Is it just to look different and to use precious stones for upgrading instead of having to hunt keese and lizalfos all over the world?

Yeah I've been specifically looking for a 3d platformer to play since I've just gone through a long jrpg and want a break from that genre before I get into another intensive rpg-like time sink like ac odyssey or ys 8. If mario 3d world is a good game (especially single player since I definitely don't have anyone to play multiplayer with) then I'll finally have my platformer fix.

Anyway as to sapphire circlets, I believe they're crafting materials or something like that, I remember not needing them for a long time and then all of a sudden I was using them for upgrades of... something

The multiplayer mode of the base game is nice, but I think it should be fun in single player, too. Bowser's Fury is more made for single player. All in all it's good money's worth 7-8/10.

Interesting about the circlet. Are you saying the armor piece is an ingredient to another armor piece?

No he is incorrect. You don't need to make ANY of the circlets, you just can if you want to.

I made the amber one already, because it actually has higher defense numbers. Eventually I'll go pick up the diamond one from the labyrinth place because it also has a higher defense, so it's literally just a better version of the amber one.
But maybe it's the same deal there. I never got the soldier armor set, maybe the amber earrings are just a replacement for the helmet.

Generally speaking I'd say that the balance in this game is pretty good. But the wearable equipment confuses me a little. Like we discussed the jewelry for example, it would be nice if it offered a little bit more to make up for the fact that they're not part of a set. And the Snow/Sand boots feel like they'd be excellent as the foot pieces of the respective snow/desert set. I dunno, maybe it's because I did Zora first, and those pieces have more unique things going on, but a lot of the armor just seems a little uninspired compared to that. Especially since like, getting a water attack is cool and all, but you generally don't ever want to be in the water anyway.

Another thing I though of is that it would be cool if tougher versions of enemies, on top of just having bigger numbers, also had like one extra attack per tier. Like the only difference between a white and red bokoblin now is their numbers. Giving each tier a new attack to use would have kept things a lot more fresh.

But in the end these are things that would improve something that I'm still quite happy about.

I think they're just there to fit the 'heroes don't wear helmets' aesthetic, and give you a minimalist alternative to the comparable headgear found in matching suits. IIRC the Amber one in particular provides a pretty significant defense stat when fully upgraded, I seem to remember getting some mileage out of that one.

I actually really liked the star fragment mechanic, at least on the 2nd playthrough when I knew from the start of the game what to look for and how valuable they were. I normally don't like having my in-game plans / destination interrupted, but surprisingly it was pretty fun to see a shooting star, slap on my Sheikah clothes and chug a speed potion, and book it to the impact spot before dawn.

It did piss me off a couple times when I was just seconds away from reaching the spot before it disappeared, though. The worst however was when the impact spot was on the side of cliff, and I when I got there the fragment materialized only to slide down the cliff and sink into the pond below, giving me no way of reaching it.

I tried the DLC quest on the Great Plateau, the one where I die in a single hit and need to kill four monster camps. Wiped a couple times on the first camp, then gave up for the moment. I genuinely don't like that kind of challenge - to be mindful of enemies shooting arrows and throwing rocks at me from a blindspot. Eventually I might finish it but right now it just doesn't seem very fun. It's too bad, from what I can tell this is the quest that upgrades the Divine Beast powers? It would be really sweet to have Revali's Gale on a two minute cooldown.

I also gave up on that one. I didn't like that the weapon needed to recharge to kill in one hit. I've seen some YouTube videos of it after i gave up and people use the bow a lot, with bomb arrows.

Might try that the next time

I only tried the one in the forest of spirits so far. Gave it a couple shots, then decided I'll do it later.

I'm a bit conflicted about what to think about these challenges. Yeah of course it's fun that they're hard, but it's also like.. challenges that strip you of all your equipment kinda makes all the collecting feel more useless. Like, part of what's cool about this game is when you reach an end-game fantasy state. I suppose I wish that these challenges would take that in mind rather than just equalize things so it doesn't really matter that you upgraded your armor sets or collected Lynel weapons, etc. (although I'm aware that I can use the bow in this particular challenge, I'm speaking generally)

I ended up doing other things today. Finally did the shrine where I'm stranded on that island. Really happy that I had the camel beat so I could kill the Hinox with charged strikes. I suppose it's possible to just nab the ball and run away, but I didn't manage that. Also, at this point it feels like I've got a pretty good handle on Lynels. They're not so tricky anymore, but they take a while.

This is how my first playthrough was. There's a waterfall near the beginning that will take you all the way the top of the castle. Makes no sense because Zora armor is like one of the first objects you get after the tutorial.

This, and also there's the fact that even if you do complete all the beasts before entering the castle, the Zora armor might be one of the LAST items you get along the way. Sure, the Kakariko/Hateno quest line makes it pretty easy to be drawn to Vah Ruta first, but that's not a guarantee at all.

Some of the new shrines have been pretty nice. I particularly liked the one on the great plateau with the scoop. I really disliked the one where I had to do motion controls to set up a clean cannon shot. Motion control shrines are the worst dude. And the one on the plateau where I had to traverse an obstacle course with a bunch of spikes while dying from only one hit was awful, since I couldn't save in the middle. It would send me back to the start either way, and I was playing really sloppily.

I'd say all in all the DLC so far is a bit of a mixed bag. Generally appreciate the extra shrines. I don't appreciate the boss fights so far. I know there's an original one, and I just pray that it isn't a Yiga clan fighter with more HP but something a little bit more original. I'm also curious to see what the extra dungeon will be like. I greatly appreciate the QoL things like horse teleporter, movable teleport location, Korok mask, etc. I know there's a bike which I kinda don't want? I mean it's probably really nifty but I just don't think thematically it fits. Would have much preferred something like a pegasus or get an upgraded version of that ghost stag Iwata hommage thing. Master Trials are fun but a little annoying at times. I just wish that the DLC featured more new content but I understand that that would have been technically more involved. Like, I'd have liked a new region on the world map, some actually new enemies (like a dodongo or a gohma or something?), etc. But I get that the DLC is just a lot smaller than that. Also I hate amiibos and I don't want a game to have amiibo exclusive content.

Hopefully I can play a bit more during the weekend, but probably not as much as in the weeks.

Finally finished it. Accidentally activated the Ganon fight before finding the final memory. CBA to do it again really, so I'm just looking up the true ending on YouTube. Feels a bit weird that the most important part of the story requires getting almost to the very final fight, then leaving to report to Impa. I don't mind the nonlinear narrative, in fact I think it works quite well with how the game is also nonlinear. But this feels like they're hiding the most crucial bits behind an obstacle that kinda makes you lose steam a bit. Like, I'd have preferred it if the final memory would proc at the Sanctum, if you uncovered all the other ones, or something like that. I'll write up some complete thoughts about the game tomorrow. I enjoyed it a lot.

Gonna agree with you on that one. Entering the final area and then having to leave really ruins the momentum. I think the memory in the castle and the final memory especially are both really good ones, but they coulda added another shot to the castle scene in order to justify placing the photo just outside of the castle area. Like after the encounter with dad, Zelda sits outside the castle moping and staring at the bridge where he scolded her.

It's a shame, cuz I'm sure a lot of players were robbed of the experience of the final memory because of the castle scene's placement.

Exactly. It's the only part that shows what happened to Link and it's where Zelda finally awakens her power. Without it, the very beginning of the game and the final sequence are still kinda out of nowhere.
