This game is heckin great man. I thought weapon durability would bug me a lot more than it does, it's pretty easy to play around. I'm about halfway through the game at this point and honestly, this is some of the best gaming I've done in a really long time.

I grew up with the original NES Zelda, and I'm enjoying the callbacks a lot.
This might be a playthrough topic until I forget to bump it

The game is overwhelming.

It's like the GTA games.

Yeah, I think my only "gripe" with the game is the lack of dungeons. And even then, I think the game is perfectly fine without them, it might just be my nostalgia speaking. But certainly I wouldn't have been sad if they took away a bunch of shrines and put that into hidden temples as well. Like, when I found the forgotten temple, it felt like such a missed opportunity to just stick guardians there.

Great game to teach you that you can get a lot of things done by focusing on doing small stuff "here and there" instead of getting overwhelmed by everything at once

Yeah it is. I struggle a lot with finishing open-ended games like that, but recently I gave up on my useless pride and just allowed myself to have a guide open if I lose steam.

You might want to consider doing the bird divine beast last. Not because it's harder, but because the ability you get completely trivializes the rest of the game.

I'm surprised you didn't use it at the castle. By the time I was ready to beat the game I just wanted it to be over with so I literally just jumped to the top of the castle without doing any of the interior stuff.

I didnt need to use it or do any of the interior stuff. Im not sure how exactly I pulled it off, but somehow I made it all the way to Ganon without fighting any enemies just by using the Zora armor on the waterfalls by the castle

Ideally there should be a mixture of shrines and standard dungeons. The Divine Beasts were good, but obviously they shouldn't be a replacement for classic Zelda dungeons. I want BOTW2 to have a bit of everything. Include a few typical Zelda dungeons. Maybe reduce the number of shrines and make the ones you have be a bit longer and more unqiue. And most importantly I want more open-ended dungeons like Hyrule Castle.

Should make it that full climbing gear allows you to climb in the rain, without slipping. Because you cant explore shit when its raining, and it rains a lot.

I kept hearing about the rain being such a drag prior to playing it, but it never really bothered me outside of, like, one instance where I really wanted to scale a cliff face when a rainstorm happened to come up.

On short climbs you can game the rainslick mechanic slightly - iirc Link always slips on the 5th grab, so just grab 4 times, leap, slide back down a bit, repeat. If you've got decent stamina you can at least climb trees and short cliffs in the rain without being completely stymied by it.

I finished the bird thing. Probably my favorite Ganon fight so far. Water was fine, but fire was so incredibly trivial with the Master Sword. Maybe I was just over leveled. I did some extra exploring before I quit for the day, but of course I forgot all about my new fancy bird power. The plan right now I guess is to explore Hebra a bit more then head on to the desert. Or maybe I'll revisit some quests I kinda skipped, like that stupid island or the labyrinth in Akkala. Need to get myself some rupees though, that fourth fairy fountain is going to be pretty nasty.

Yup, rain sucks. But it hasn't really been a major problem for me. Whenever there's been rain it's been fine to either just wait it out, go somewhere else, or set up camp. I do wish the climbing gear worked against it though.

You're definitely overleveled if you have the master sword already. IIRC that's meant to be a sort of optional endgame thing to prep for the final fight.

Yeah, that one. I stumbled upon it super early before I really knew the game very well. It seemed like a hassle so I left it for later. I like the concept though, just not that I got owned by it. Not sure what Typhlo Ruins is?

Also, is there like a gauntlet type challenge somewhere in the game where you just fight tons of floors of enemies? Or am I confusing that with Windwaker?

Wow! I got it after the first beast. I figured that since I needed 36 shrines for it, I was meant to get it around before the halfway point.
