About to start my first ever playthrough of a DS game.

I have no idea what any of this is.

the class you choose only really affects your beginning stats, and you'll find it's not very important as the game goes on

DS1? Go pyro
Tho tbqh it's not really worth it since when you can use more pyromancies, you get the dude who sells you the fucking pyromancer tool anyway

Sorcerer is a fine choice for cheesing bosses

Magic is absurdly powerful in 1 and still pretty strong in 2

pyro is a solid starting choice because you get a decent spell which can help against some early tough fights.

knight or another class with solid armor and a shield is also good so you can tank some hits. poise is the real deal in DkS1, so having heavy armor can help. a good shield can also help a newer player quite a bit, but most Souls vets will scoff at blocking in favor of rolling. but don't listen, and play however you find effective and fun.

i strongly recommend against taking the Master Key as your starting gift (or starting as Thief) because it lets you visit areas you "shouldn't" and can really confuse a new player.

Are you playing Dark Souls 1? If so, you should pick Pyromancer and select Master Key as your starting gift. If you're playing 2, I strongly recommend going with the mage & finding a longsword. Hexes & Greatswords work well together in 2. In 3, believe it or not, it doesn't matter. Min/max EVERYTHING. All the weapons & spells have their use, but you need to be able to use them and deal "decent" damage. You should be using a bow at this point. If not, you will regret it unless your PvP chops are up to snuff. DaS3 starts out easy, but most people lean hard on co-op for the final bosses and optional bosses. Be warned. It'd arguably tougher than Sekiro. Start with 1 or Demon's Souls....

Or Sekiro! lol

It really doesn't matter that much in Dark Souls 1. Pick the one you think looks cool. Same with the starting gift - except Master Key kinda.

I breezed through my 1st playthrough until Capra demon with a magic build. Even the twin boss never stood a chance (yes I used the offline summon) Only issue I encountered after that was cutting off black dragon's tail

class is pretty damned minor. Once you're level 20 it won't matter.

Only problem with 2 is that if you went magic, the DLC shits all over you by giving everything massive resistance to it.

If this is your first time playing Dark Souls 1, I strongly recommend against getting the master key. You have the potential of breaking the intended route through the game with the master key, which could lead to some unbalanced areas and gameplay.
