While he was working for Boeing (where he created a new hydraulic pressure resonance suppressor which is still used in the Boeing 747 today) in Seattle after graduating from college, Bill appeared on a local comedy television show called "Almost Live".
During his appearance, he corrected the show's host on his pronunciation of the word "gigawatt", and the host asked the following question: "Who do you think you are? Bill Nye 'the Science Guy'?" I used to watch Almost Live. It was better than SNL. But people who didn't live in western Washington might not have agreed. It was mostly local humor that other people wouldn't get
