Everything about it was great except for how it never really seems to come together in a way the concept seems to imply it will.

The main story is too hand-hold-y for its own good, and the way it wears the "Rogue-lite" cape without ever really committing to the addicting risk vs reward mechanics that make Roguelikes compelling prevents it from being as enjoyable as it should be.

I couldn't believe it when my friend called me the other day to tell me that he was trading it into GameStop.

And he didn't even get close to beating it.

I beat it and can only remember the name of the protagonist.

It's a shame what's happened to Arkane Studios. raphael colantonio was such a great asset. Only directed, and released two games under a corporate overlord. Before he got tired of it.
Deathloop, and the new RedFall just look like games he would have never designed.
That company was straight up a love letter to Ultima/thief/deus ex.

That is not the case anymore.

Eh I think it gets unfairly hated because it recieved tens. I really dont understand what people want from games. Deathloop is pretty amazing for what it is.

It's up there with Returnal as my game of the year.

This could be the only sentence of modern culture that survives to be found by alien anthropologists, unfamiliar with the very concept of humans, and even they would know better than I whatever the fuck this is supposed to mean.

Youve complained before that this game suffers for being a rogue lite when its not supposed to be that at all

it is a linear(ish) story that happens to take place in a time loop

i do agree that it was disappointing how handholdy the final run was, it would have been fun to actually figure it all out, or perhaps there could be multiple ways to do it (and the ending was very abrupt)

Getting three lives per time of day is a bit excessive, especially by the point in the game where you have so many tools to survive anyway

I'm even more lost now.

I just wish it actually let you come up with more than the one pre defined solution and work out your own way to the end.

It's otherwise a pretty fun game, with good characters and voice acting.
