"[When we] prioritize principles over party and humanity over personal legacy we accomplish far more as a nation. By leading with a shared faith in each other, we become America at its best," Biden continued, adding that Dole went on to say, "a beacon of hope, a source of comfort in crisis, a shield against those who threaten freedom. Our nation has certainly faced periods of division. But at the end of the day, we have always found ways to come together. We can find that unity again."

I think Biden is naive when it comes to bipartisanship. I wish I could believe the modern day GOP were really trying to do their best for the country but they're nothing but snake oil salesmen trying to destroy it. We need to burn them whenever possible

He's not wrong. The Senate was able to put together that bipartisan infrastructure bill pretty flawlessly. There's lots that both parties can agree on and actually make progress with. I think the problem is too many bills are drafted specifically to boost election prospects or be some kind of "gotcha" vote for the opposing party by taking something that people would generally support and then stuffing it with things the other party hates.

I think if Congress focused on more small-scale straight issue bills without padding and actually bothered to vote on those bills more often we would see a lot less division.

Don't care. Bipartisanship is a navie concept rn. Even in the bipartisanship bill they passed a lot of good stuff was cut for bs reasons.

Seems as though he was quoting (or paraphrasing?) Bob Dole.

The Republicans only went along with it because it was going to pass regardless. You think we'd get any bill like that if they still had control of congress? McConnell would laugh it down all the way to the bank. It already got severely weakened because Manchin knows he's a Democrat in a deep-red state and if he doesn't cater to the conservatives and coal lobby then he'll end up like Doug Jones.

Right now the GOP is just rolling with the punches until they get their majority back next year and they can fuck us again.

I think you might be confusing the house "build back better" bill which is being sold as an infrastructure bill and the Senate infrastructure bill which was an actual infrastructure bill. IIRC, the Senate Bill didn't go through any significant revisions because it's just straight funding for infrastructure projects. It's the house bill that got cut down.

They're two totally separate bills that people keep confusing because they were initially pitched as being a package deal where the house would approve the Senate Bill if the Senate approves the house bill.

Boomer dems constant need to trust in Republicans and wanting to give them another chance, is ultimately what will doom America

Even now, they still refuse to understand that Republicans have changed. If this was dbz on namek, the Republicans are Frieza. Boomer dems are goku saying before they meet Frieza that they can get them to change their ways

Progressives are Vegeta, telling Goku that Frieza is different and you can't reason with him. But unlike the show, Boomer Dems won't get a chance to defeat the Republicans. Because Boomer Dems are even more foolish than Goku was
