Fast food restaurants use chickens weighing less than 4.5 pounds since their small chicken breasts require very little carving and are already the right size to go on a chicken sandwich. Chickens aged 7-13 weeks will weigh 2-1/2 to 5 pounds before being sold as meat for chicken sandwiches.
