The Sumerians were so advanced relative to all other cultures around them, including the Akkadians. Even after they were conquered, Sumerian remained the official language of science and education in Mesopotamia until 100 AD, but Akkad directly led to Assyria and Babylonia, spin-off cultures. It therefore led to abrahamic religion, the foundations of most western cultural ideals, etc.

I argue that you are incorrect
The single most important conflicts in human history thus far were either WW2 and/or the Cold War. That or the colonization of the Americas. Those events we can point to as directly shaping the world we see today in an immediately tangible sense.

I suggest that you are citing the most important early conflict in recorded history, on a large scale, and tracking its repercussions across time. I mean .. what was Asia up to around then? XD

I mean, even when the Sumerians were 100% gone, basically all of Mesopotamia used their writing system, mathematics, legal system, etc. Hell, they still even taught their language in schools. That was almost 3,000 years after the Sumerians themselves disappeared into history.

The late Bronze Age collapse is really fascinating. If the Egyptians hadn't managed to beat them back, basically no major civilization would have survived.

One of the most interesting things about the Sumerians is that, contrasted with basically every other culture that came after, they often depicted themselves as smiling and not aggressive. Gilgamesh, the legendary King of Uruk, is often depicted as holding a lamb or a baby lion and smiling. Truly the good guy Steves of antiquity.

I studied this!

The huge straws are because of gross skim on the surface.

Everyone drank the beer because it was the only reliable form of hydration.

Supposedly they had access to wine from other regions, but they vastly preferred beer

any culture that grows a lot of grain is going to like its beer, since they're going to end up converting a lot of that grain into beer either intentionally or by accident.
