I currently have a 3.9 and 52 credits. I just took a 4 credit class, but kinda bombed it and got a 2.5.

What is that going to bring me down to?

You took a class and got a 2.5? Sounds like not enough info.

Was your semester average was a 2.5? How many hours did you take this semester?

Multiply your 3.9 x the 52 credits, add the 2.5 x 4 credits to that, then divide the new total of 56 credits from that sum.

Only some people go to college to get a meaningful degree/education.
A lot of others do it for the "college experience", to try and mingle with rich kids to develop connections for a job, and/or simply for the status of "having a degree".
Which is honestly fine...as long as you do it on the cheap and avoid getting into a lot of debt for it. (in-state university, living off-campus, working part time to pay for the costs a bit instead letting it all accumulate the 4+ years, etc...)

To be fair, calculating averages isn't part of many college programs, nor does it need to be. That kind of statistical manipulation really doesn't show up outside of some sciences and economics.

To be less fair, that's like grade 7-8ish math.

Ive never met an employer that cares about a GPA. And Ive interviewed for a ton of positions that I wasnt remotely qualified for
