Wow guys, it's as if people made an assumption based on pre-existing data and it might've been wrong.

Like, I hate how anti-vaxxers and other people have downplayed Covid but Omicron's supposed "mild cases" were actually kinda hopeful for the future.

I mean, this study is also very limited and not peer reviewed yet

this doesnt strike me as significantly more conclusive than the other study people cite saying it is less deadly

the narrative was different because there was no data and people parroted shit from a dated science book that sounded smart. there's barely any data now and it suggests that maybe the virus didn't magically mutate into a benign state.

Yep. I'd only get mad at people if they ignore new data that comes out and just continue to spout inaccuracies, like how Covid was initially downplayed and how anti-vaxxers think.

There is more evidence to support the contrary.

Also, the CDC has yet to find a case of "re-infection". There was a study done with 11 million people. They couldn't find it.

If it was possible to get Covid twice, we would be facing much dire circumstances...hopefully that's obvious.

I would wait as since this study isn't officially sourced it seems that is has not yet been peer reviewed, and by it's own admission it's making assumptions. I wouldn't jump the gun here. Science in other countries is telling us the opposite.

No, I said shutting down travel from south africa was public theater. Which it was.

It's like suddenly nobody understands risk assessment.

Variant discovered with highest amount of mutations yet, sounds pretty bad. But all the media says "wait and see, we have no data."

Waiting and seeing gets people killed. Anybody who downplayed this, said let's hope for the best and do nothing to prepare for any other outcome, are lemmings.

I'm not advocating for panic but this was so stupid. It's like saying you can reasonably play with guns if you have no evidence they're loaded.

tbh I'm inclined to agree with this stance

the variant is already everywhere and you're not really fixing that by shutting own international travel at this point. I can see a case for like... if country A has significantly better containment and lower case counts than country B, they may want to block entry from country B, but there's just so much widespread blanket travel ban that doesn't really make sense. And in that situation, country B definitely gains no value blocking entry from country A, but this is also happening constantly

It's still a very new variant (or at least, we haven't known about it for very long), so I'm not sure which ones to believe yet.
