Youre at Walmart with your boyfriend or girlfriend and their 13 year old child who is female. The mother cant be found in the store so the boyfriend who is with the teen leaves the teen with the greeter to grab their phone they forgot was left in the car.

When the mother was found there was a fight about leaving the teen alone.

Here are the details that I know:

The teen didnt want to go out in the cold.

The teen did not have a cell phone

The conflict is between my brother and his girlfriend.

I can see where shes coming from and although the girl shouldve been safe with the greeter, a mother wouldnt see it that way. Think your brother lacks paternal instinct. But this is a typical logic vs emotion fight between most hetero couples.

My wife actually thinks it was fine too lol. My brother is almost 40 and hasnt raised a kid before.

My opinion I thought was based on logic when I said it wasnt alright since the teen didnt have a phone. If something was to happen since they were by the exit/entrance where anything could have happened like say they wander off or someone tries to take them. I personally think things are more dangerous for children today than they were back then, but my spouse thinks its safer.

Was she with the greeter the whole time?

GF, a veritable utopia where pro-LGBT posts are deleted.
I considered becoming an FBI agent, or just a judge, in college but ended up writing stories/poems.

I don't care that the teen doesn't want this and they go with me anyway.

Problem avoided.

As far as actually being in this situation. Id not defend myself when my gf yelled at me for doing it. Id just agree not to do it again

I thought that too

My sister let's my nieces make a lot of decisions from being sensitive that I wouldn't lol. And I watch them and don't let it slide. They immediately get over it. But, I'm not gonna pretend I know the results if they know they're stuck with me for the long haul and can't just wait me out lol. They have a comfort in knowing their mom with eventually baby them again. Maybe, that's the mom and dad balance. Cause, I'm also more of a dick knowing that they usually get babied.

idk, I feel like a 13 year old is old enough to be left alone in a store, even without having to bother a greeter about watching them.

This is actually a pretty solid point too. I'd still make them come with me, just cause I don't like their excuse tho. You're gonna get cold sometimes, stop being a punk lol

I think its fine depending on if you know the 13 year old is mature enough or has a cell phone. If the mom trusted the teen enough to be on their own theyd have a phone.

The way you worded the topic makes this a bit confusing. Why make it a "boyfriend or girlfriend" scenario, then immediately start referring to "the mother" and "the boyfriend"?

So basically, your brother was with his girlfriend and her daughter. He couldn't find his girlfriend, so he went to grab his phone from the car while the daughter waited there with the store's greeter. And now his girlfriend is mad that he left her daughter alone?

Where did the girlfriend go though? Did she not tell them where she was going? Usually you'd say something like "Hey I'm going to go look at the cameras. Come find me when you're done here."

Leaving a fucking 13 year old alone for a few minutes doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but if the girlfriend really isn't okay with it, then just apologize and agree not to do it again in the future. Can't undo what's already been done, but it is her daughter, so she has more say in how she's raised.
