Because there are 50 other senators (49 GOPers and Sinema) that agree with them.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

No one man should have all that power

I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.

The Senate is an inherently anti democratic institution.

This. McConnel loves being blamed for shit because he's never going to lose an election. He can be the sin eater for all of the Republicans in more moderate states.

Also the fact that McConnell is the leader of his party and knows how to keep the Republican senators in line adds to his influence.

Really Democrats need to have a 61+ plus majority in Senate. They need people like Stacy Abrams to help flip those red states, just like how it was done in Georgia.

There is an extreme rural bias in the Senate, where conservative "values" are popular. Republicans exploit this system to maintain majority most of the time by amassing Senators from states that have like 500,000 people total. And they get 2 Senators. But you go to California, one of the largest economies in the world and 40 million people, but they also have just 2 Senators.

So what you have is a system where a very small minority of people are able to derail the progressive platform that, actually, something like 80% of the country believes in. It's just the arbitrary state lines drawn about where people live that gives those rural areas way way WAY more representation than everyone else.

Also, at the local and state government level they use their power to gerrymander and restrict voting so as to further ensure their grip on power, lest they have to actually start doing things American citizens actually want them to do in order to get elected to office.

I think its a miracle that Democrats even have a Senator from West Virginia the most reddest conservative state. When hes gone itll be a locked in Republican seat for decades.

Democrats are lucky to even have the 50-50 in the Senate with them in control. It ****ing sucks

And its always magnified by donors choosing someone who wont use any tools they have to get around this problem.

Heck theyll even invent a new rule like hiring a committee to tell them no.
