35 y/o Heather Pingel from Wisconsin and motehr of 2 has died 8 days after suffering severe injuries when she saved her 4 y/o son from being brutally kiled by the family's PITBULL!!

She suffered kidney failure, lung damage and both of her arms were AMPUTATED after the pitbull viciously attacked her and her son, Damian on Dec. 8. The dogs tore her arms so severely that doctors had to amputate both

She was rushed to Aspirus Wausau Hospital where she died of her injuries while Damian received 70 stitches to his leg

Her sister, Shannon said "I just want people to know she died a hero. I hate that this happened, but i'm thankful she saved my nephew..she is the best mom. She did everything for her babies. If you saw Heather you saw the kids too, especially Damion. From the day he was born he was attached to his mom's hip. Such a mommy's boy. She will always be our hero and forever will be missed"

Shane Bernarde, her bf came home in the afternoon and saw the violent scene after realizing the family dog was attacking them. He grabbed the dog and pulled it outside and shot it dead where he was bitten in the process.

Shannon said the couple feared the dog would be killed or get taken to a shelter even though he had signs of aggression and believe the attack started when Damion fell down the stairs and started crying since the dog hated skittish noises.

A gofundme was raised for funeral costs which also revealed Shane lost his job just a day before the attack

Some dogs are unfortunately just born messed up and too dangerous for anyone to live. Because she was too soft hearted, it ended up physically scarring the son for life and killing her. It's just tragedy layered upon tragedy. I don't even know what to say other than that it's horrifying a single dog would keep attacking so long she'd lose both arms.

Maybe those monkeys that started that war with dogs in India are on to something.

I have family that had their dogs around their babies and I thought that was the dumbest shit ever. That creature is not your friend. It is not a holy magical creature conjured of pure love just for you. It is a fuckin animal and like any animal they can get pissed at anything.

Mostly for the fact that good owners don't seem to exist.

From the sounds of it, they knew the dog had issues but kept it anyway. Not a good move as an owner with a child.

Id actually support the idea of having to acquire a license to own pitbulls. If the owner takes a few classes on dog safety and shows proof that they can be a responsible owner.

Agreed for the most part. Animals can be friends to a extent though, but you can never completely know how they are thinking and feeling, and they are slaves to their natures even more than people can be due to their vastly limited intellects. Not to mention their upbringing and mental illness can also affect their nature, their identity and their reactions in negative ways. Combine all that with owning a pet that could actually pose a significant threat to you, like a Pitbull, and it's a recipe for disaster. This is why they should never be trusted and left unsupervised with infants and even small children.

i was an akc-certified golden retriever breeder for as long as i did it. every puppy i ever sold was socially well-adjusted, because we made it a point to have them integrate with the family as soon as they were paper-trained.

i have personally seen the difference between puppies raised as we raised them and those raised on a puppy mill. actually, witnessing a puppy mill first-hand was what brought the breeding and selling to an end -- no matter our intent and method, we were contributing to a problem. for every well-adjusted golden we made sure went to a good home (through ridiculous screening actually,) there were ten that were raised in cages outdoors and were hand-shy and food-aggressive. dogs are very impressionable. it is how you raise them.

so for this pitbull thing -- i think there's just as much blame to place on the breeders as there is the owners. and none for the dog or breed itself. chow chows are dangerous dogs; why is this one nice? why are the four rotties my friend owns not mauling anyone? it's as simple as: do you have a bigger brain than this animal or not?
