They don't have to be the best games, or even your most nostalgic... just whatever is the warmest feeliegoodest

For me it might be Mario 2. I think for my bro it might be SNES Sim City

World of Warcraft. It's terrible compared to FFXIV and hasn't been decent since Legion. Yet I won't deny that logging on and playing it makes me feel happy and comfortable; like a security blanket. Too bad Blizz is circling the drain and I'm too disgusted by the company.

Dark Cloud 2. If you played this game you probably know exactly why it's on this list.

Pokemon RBY. It's garbage compared to Sword/Shield with all it's updates and improvements. Yet there's just... it's not the same. The best way I can describe it is that the road to Viridian City or even the zubat-infested hell of Mt. Moon is something just... unique... to the experience. I'm not gonna present Gen 1 is amazing, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't comforting.

Age of Empires II. I'll never be unhappy playing this game.

Most of them I still play now-

  • Diablo 2- Have been playing Resurrected every day since launch in fact. OG D2 I played off and on for over 10 years, and if you add it all up I've only ever found TWO high runes. TWO. The other day I got a Mal rune which was the first one ever for me. Such a great game but those drop rates are absolutely soul-crushing.
  • Dark Souls 1- Don't ask me why, it's the world design I suppose. Getting to Firelink and hearing those violins start up was something else. This game has had a huge influence on me for my own stuff in some small way.
  • Borderlands 2- If they boosted the power of ARs it might be next to perfect IMO. If it weren't for the cool cel shaded visuals I would've likely never have given it a shot.
  • Plants vs. Zombies (360 / DS)- The only tower defense game I've tried that I liked, and holy crap is this one tons of fun. Only downside is if you're playing multiplayer and you're the zombies it's not nearly as fun as when you're the plants. Bonus points for what seems like an endless supply of extra game modes and unlockables.
  • Everquest - Eh... Maybe this was more an ADDICTION thing and not a comfort game but there was a span of say 3 years where I played this every day for up to 8 hours a pop (before kids, obviously!) The only way I was able to stop playing it was when the Luclin expansion came out and my computer could no longer play it. Kind of the "cold turkey" approach. The only MMO I've ever really played, my inability to get off of it is why I don't play or try these anymore.
  • Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes- Aside from most of the units in the Elf army being way too OP this is probably the best puzzle game I've tried
  • Dragon Warrior 3 remake for the gbc- My favorite version of my favorite DQ game
  • The Ground Gives Way (PC) - One of the better roguelikes I've played with very easy to use controls and pretty ASCii graphics. I play this all the time at work. The guy who made this is also a good chap so I like to give this a shout out whenever possible.
  • NES Ultima Quest of the Avatar- A great old school RPG on the original toaster but unlike Exodus (or lots of Dragon Warriors) it looks really good too. Has an original plot where you are trying to better yourself and not defeat the evil big boss at the end.
  • NES Zelda- I can always fire up and play like it was 1988 again
  • Might & Magic 2 (Apple ][e) - This is such a wonderful game. Probably the best-looking of all those old computer games I played as a kid, and leaps and bounds better than the first one
  • Mrs. Pac Man, Galaga, Dig Dug and Frogger are all super old games I'd play at the arcade whenever I got the chance. Luckily they released these lots of times on Namco collections since
  • Wizardry 5 (SNES) has all the great gameplay of the NES Wizardry but looks 100x better. Only drawback is the dungeon isn't as deep floor-wise.

Dude I LOVED that game, I wish there was a game like it.

I also LOVED Legend of Dragoon and I wish they would port it or remake it. They had it on that PSP thing where it was on your PS3 and streamed it to the PSP which was stupid since there was input lag and it made the combos a pain in the ass to do.

Everyone I know who played it has said the same thing. At most they've complained about stuff like Spheda but even then I've yet to hear anyone say they didn't love it. I think what set it apart was that you were constantly unlocking new/more content and were encouraged to explore and stuff.
