It has been a while since I've been here, I'm surprised this site still exists.How is everyone doing? Hope you've all been safe since covid hit

We're all just fiction livin' in one man's world, apparently.

I came back for three seconds after a year and already got into an argument, so I'm in a pretty immensely rotten mood now, but other than that I'm quitting my retail job and getting into doing something I love and that I'll get paid well for.

But yeah this site is bad for my mental health tbh.

I believe I have contracted IBS, but other than that I'm doing pretty good

@Zangulus I don't want to be mad and you shouldn't either, I think we should move past this and be friendly instead of arguing because we are both adults who deserve respect.

How is your life doing? Weren't you a welder?

Yup, it's a startup crypto-currency company, so there's that. I do data analysis as well as data scraping. What I do is secret, but if you remember the last PMs I sent you it's pretty much very related to that.

Even if it doesn't work out, this should be enough to get me in the right direction of never working in a grocery store again. My current boss will make sure he gets me into his employer if it goes downhill. I remember the Google code links you sent me that one time, and I appreciate that. At that same time I was getting involved with this startup.

right ok. it's not super interesting sounding to me (data analysis etc), but glad it's going well for you.

I still wish I had spent some more time working with your code, I guess I am just already at the limit of what I can accomplish time and energy -wise these days.

Haha, I definitely don't resent that you didn't do more, if that's what you're getting at. I liked seeing how you worked with it. Up until that point I had never gotten any feedback on anything I'd written, so the fact that you didn't call it a rat's nest gave me some confidence. There's never enough time for a coder, there's always some cool project we wish we had time for or wish we could come back to.

My data analysis is like data science, and it's from a financial investment perspective, so I get to come up with a hypothesis and test it, I get full creative control. So really I just love doing it. Part of it is getting educated on official analysis methods, that's what I really liked. I love how in coding, the fact that no matter how hard the problem is there's never been a case where I couldn't do anything to fix it. You never get that control in real life.

my plan had been to go through it once and clean up minor things as I went, to get an understanding of the whole thing. (I got half way through that). once I started to grasp it as a whole, then I could try to do some larger scale refactorings and then I could show you some ways of organizing things that you might not know. (basically it would be a great way to share some knowledge, if I could have gotten that far).

it was also a good way to start learning git more too though I guess. these days I can't believe I ever used mercurial and consider it vastly inferior to git. mercurial is slow and messes up all the time. git is rock solid in comparison, WAY faster, and has a really intuitive branch model.

but yeah, I got side-tracked by writing a KSP launch window calculator and schedule tracker which enabled me to reliably go interplanetary in KSP for the first time. but even that I find hard to work on outside of vacation time when I already am coding all day at work. (I shouldn't though... I think it's more that I don't have the best setup at home for coding. at work I have a much better desk and keyboard and chair and a bit faster PC. so I find it surprisingly draining to code at home).

How come TC got rid of his sig?

They probably realized over time that a signature like that wasn't the zinger it used to be - that they had to put actual effort into baiting people. I mean, if I am going to have a signature like that and over time people just stop caring about it, what even is the point?

It said I do not support homosexuality in any way or something like that. He had it for years.

there once was a mod that did an ask me anything and I asked if I would get modded for having my sig be I do not support black people in any way. And he said of course I would, so then I asked why TC was allowed to have their sig say what it did and he just stopped responding to the topic
