Was walking home, turned the corner on my street and smelled gas. I started walking a little bit quicker because I didnt want to be in that. About a minute later I start to open my door and suddenly something forces it open beyond the strength I was using to push it. I stop for a beat and realize what must have just happened, look back down the street where I just walked and see debris covering the sidewalk. I had headphones on so I didnt even really hear the explosion! A minute earlier (or if my bus had been a minute later) and Id likely be fucking dead. Other neighbors say the people there had moved out two weeks ago, so nobody was hurt as far as we know. I havent gone down to look at the damage, it was a corner house so only one adjacent house, not sure if it got damaged either.

tldr a house exploded 60 seconds after I walked past it

Since they'd moved out, there's gotta be more to the story. One of the most fascinating cases around here was when a home exploded and the arson unit investigated... and found a charred body... in which the coroner found a bullet hole . Turns out the bad guy shot his wife and just shut the gas off to incinerate the home and the body with it, and that didn't quite work out the way he'd planned. Instead of collecting life insurance money, he collected a life sentence.

Found the guy who owned the security camera on Facebook and asked him to check just how close I was and he said it was exactly two minutes

Incidents like this always give you a sudden realization on the fragility of life... I got T-boned at an intersection by a drunk driver who ran the red light, a couple of years back. He hit the drivers side at a ridiculous pace, but impacted the back of the car rather than the front (luckily i was the only one in the car), he completely wrote off my car but I luckily only had minor injuries, but it really made me think if i had delayed my crossing by a split second, he would have hit the front drivers side, and I probably wouldn't be here anymore...

And most of the time these incidents are all out of our control, like yours as well. Just makes you think, and never take anything for granted.

Yeah, I had a close shave once years ago too. I had been waiting at a bus stop for a while when I gave up and started walking. I got about a half block away when a driver rounding a corner lost control and plowed right through the bus stop I had been waiting at.

It's wild how close we come sometimes, and it probably happens more often than we realize.

Think of all the people who weren't able to make topics like these, because they were still standing there.

Something similar happened to me a few months ago. There was a series of massive explosions that occurred on the route I take home every night. The first one happened right as I was walking past, but luckily I was on the opposite side of the street at the time. But I usually take either side depending on what the lights on the first intersection I hit are. That night, for no real reason, I decided to skip the intersection and jaywalk to cut across instead to save time. If I hadn't done that I would have been walking right next to explosion when it happened. It's crazy to think how little decisions like that can matter so much.
