Back in the good old days, if you got stuck on something in a video game, you look it up on youtube and then watch like a minute video of how to do it in a quick and easy way and that's it. Then you move on with your life.

But nowadays, if you're stuck on something in a video game and look up the solution on youtube, you get this:

-Thumbnail with an exaggerated person's face on it, with a red arrow pointing to literally nothing and a title that is typed out LIKE THIS!?!?!?!?! The shortest video is 20 minutes long.
-click on the video and hit a 15 second unskippable ad if you somehow don't have adblocker
-30 second intro plays with various clips of the guy doing wacky stuff while 8-bit music plays in the background. Sometimes he has some dumb avatar.
-"What's up youtube!? [Channel name] here! And today I'm going to show you how to get past this part in the videogame. But first! This video is sponsored by dollar shave club!"
-1 minute ad of Dollar Shave Club / Nord VPN / RAID: Shadow Legends / whatever while youtuber lies about how it improved their life
-"Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe! Click the bell for notifications! Follow me on instagram and twitter! Subscribe to my Twitch stream; I stream every other day at 5pm! Check out my facebook page! Become a member of my subreddit and discord! And check out my Patreon page! You can get access to exclusive streams and if you donate $5 or more, I'll put your name at the end of the video! Be sure to SMASH that like button!"
-Guy then proceeds to talk about his personal experiences growing up with the video and how it got him out of a dark time in his life or some shit, all the while jumpcutting cuz heaven-forbid there's dead air between sentences. But somehow it's still long as hell.
-Another ad plays. This time it's 3 minutes but you can actually hit the skip ad button within 5 seconds now.
-10 minutes in, we're finally in the video game part! He then proceeds to shove his face cam feed in the corner, taking up 25% of the screen.
-Guy tries to do the thing multiple times, but keeps failing. Showing a wacky face reaction and then jumpcutting to the next failed attempt.
-Takes him 10 minutes with all the dumb failed attempts he left in the video. All the while, he has to comment on every little fucking thing he sees or does.
-Finally, he does the thing, but barely explains anything about it. Spends more time celebrating that he did it and never explains how he (barely) achieved it.
-"Well I hope that helped. Don't forget to subscribe to see more of my content! And I want to thank my fellow Patreon members such as sephiroth_420, and xXx_360_No_ScOpE_xXx for being my top paid followers this month"
-Patreon names fill the page, then a 1 minute endslate appears that shows a couple of similar videos from the guy, all while 8-bit music plays
-Another ad loads in for some reason, but this time it's 15 seconds and you can't skip it.

People do not know how to get to the FUCKING point anymore and are more concerned with shoving their fat FUCKING face in everything and making a brand of themselves than actually delivering quick and helpful content. It's just like those FUCKING food blogs where they put their life story before every recipe before giving you the directions.

You can still find a few short and to the point vids, but yeah they are becoming more scarce by the day.

People say this, but I've never had problems finding specific videos with no commentary and little-to-no intro.

Like it drove me crazy when I was missing items in RE8 and this guy did an individual video for what seems to be every room in the game.

Sure the clickbait videos exist but it's not like the other videos went away or are hard to find.

Honestly Youtube seems pretty much the same as ever to me. Only big difference is due to Adblock there's so many more in video sponsorships now. But that's nitpicking.

Youtbue is still an incredible resource man. So many free videos on every subject under the sun. I use it probably literally every day

That's really bizarre. I haven't had that happen to either of my two channels yet.

There's a guy doing Halo Infinite tips, and they are short and sweet, all under 1 minute.

Not sure what you're talking about, I looked up a video for this purpose recently. Tbf the guy did fumble but it was because he was impatient with his timing but the video itself was very short and there was no intro/outro, no sponsors, no rambling.

Also why are you watching their outro? Presumably you already saw the gameplay. Why even listen to who is sponsoring them or their life story? Just skip ahead...

Lol I used to watch episodes on youtube and they would be broken up into 3 parts for 1 episode. Good times

i watched SAW 1 to SAW 6 on youtube lol it was like 10minute videos each and it was awesome

also watched a Larry Bird career retrospective with his best games it was like 7 or 8 hours full games shit was broken up in 10min intervals

Ive seen a few larger creators talk about unnatural spikes in unsubscribers like that, able to show on a graph these weird dips in timing with their uploads. There are obviously factors like people realizing that they dont care about the creators content when they see the new upload, but the phenomenon is too frequently noted to just be that. There is definitely some very weird stuff that goes on in the backend there.

It's easy enough to find video game walkthroughs without all that clockbait nonsense.

But that's a decent description of a lot of other videos.

Though I do love when the ads are in the video now bc I can just, ya know, skip over them.

Videos I've found very helpful in the past from smaller channels which I forgot to save are now absolutely buried in the search results and hard af to find, even if I've quoted the video title and channel name in my search to a pinpoint.

less a problem with youtube and more a problem with young adults and teenagers. narcissism is suddenly an admirable trait in you guys

They're not trying to entertain you, they're trying to play the Youtube Metagame. It's just greed seeping into something that was once great.
I'd say don't watch them but it's a lost cause because the overwhelming majority of people just want a parasocial relationship or another layer of background noise.
I'm starting to wonder if "Times have changed and this is no longer Sparta" should be my go-to response for this sentiment.

Youtube, Twitch, content creation in general has turned into its own Hollywood of bullshit. Fake personalities shilling products. It's annoying but what can you do? $$$ rules everything.

me I typically try to verify stuff by looking at 3 different sources.

a good piece of advice is some sort of graphic on the thumbnail is probably intended to draw your eye towards something they're trying to sell you.

Youtube's major competition is a platform where people make 30 second videos of lip singing and another platform that has women in hot tubs. Clearly quality content is not their main concern here.

Yeah, that shit is infuriating. remember when videos had to be under 11 minutes when youtube started? people waste so much time on filler shit just so they go past 10 minutes and get the most ad revenue

It's an inevitability when things get monetized.

I love it when theres this long irrelevant preamble. Tends to happen with tabletop miniature painting stuff a lot.

Like, this one guy regularly gives this really massive monologue about what he was doing at the time he came up with an idea for five fucking minutes and has the gall to complain in some videos that people clicking out of the video partway through is messing with the algorithm for his videos.
