Chris/Jill in a holding cell.

He wanted combat data or something right?

I mean he lured S.T.A.R.S there himself. Then killed Enrico because he knew too much.

But he saves Chris and Jill, just to throw one of them in a prison and ensure 3 things happen.

1. They produce 0 combat data
2. They survive
3. They know Wesker is evil.

That seems short sighted.

Why didn't he like put a Magnum round in both of Chris' eyes, tell Jill that Barry did it and then kill whoever is alive at the end?

Was it in case everyone else died and he wanted someone to fight the Tyrant gladiator style? So he had to keep 1 guy alive?

If so why not Barry since he was pretty much Wesker's slave at that point

Also how come Rebecca doesn't seem to know what's going on with Umbrella and pisses herself at a hunter after the events of 0? You'd think she'd tell Chris.

I mean she already put the Tyrant down twice. You'd think Wesker would think twice about the whole enterprise when the 5 foot tall, 18 year old, 103 pound Medic wiped the floor with his ultimate lifeform but then couldn't handle a hunter.

That's pretty revealing combat data right there.

I think this game came out in the 90's and the writers weren't that worried about all that.

RE writers have never worried about a thing in their lives but it's still fun to speculate.

Like the whole Jar Jar is a Sith Lord and Tomy Westphall shared universe theories.

Fans who care too much about stuff that doesn't matter can sometimes create better stories/ideas than professional writers since they're not trying to monetize it

Canonically, Jill went through the mansion and Chris was locked up. From there, it's pretty easy to figure out that Wesker did so because he was going to continue the Redfield bloodline with a vastly misinformed understanding of human reproduction.

Capcom RE writers probably didn't care much about consistency and logic then and still really don't even now. The only justification of Wesker keeping a unrestrained captive in that cell is to either use them as a hostage bargaining chip somehow, or because he planned to use them later as a BOW test subject. Going by the lore Wesker isn't revealed to be a full blown mad scientist stereotype until after Code Veronica though. So yeah, I think the player should chalk it up to bad writing.

The first game has a picture of Wesker in a lab coat, so he was definitely meant to be a researcher even back then.

Yeah, but in later games they essentially doubled down on him being a egotistical crazied scientist. RE1 Wesker was involved but seemed like a fairly normal villain outside of his obession with Tyrant.

I don't think he became a "crazed" scientist until RE5 (unless there are shades of it in the side games). In CV and RE4, he comes across as just working for a different company that's doing its own viral research.

Wesker doesnt come off as a scientist at all in resident evil 5, hes more like they just really wanted agent smith to be in the game somehow
