If you use them in a spot where it makes them appear to have a different meaning than originally intended, you did add a spin. Which, most "original" jokes are old jokes with new spins these days. Also, all memes are are picture forms of what we always did. Which was use quotes and references from movies/shows in a different context or a similar context to how they were originally used. This is just a different version of doing that. It's not any worse than people making the same "lolz this year sucked and was soooo bad" at the end of every year. Remember the end of 2020? Wow, what an awful year. 2021? Wow, the worst. And 2022 will be more of the same because it's easy, lazy humor for the hoi polloi. I just saw a FB post from a local news station indicating that Betty White had died and at the end, they wrote "Really, 2021?!?" Ha ha. 2021 bad.
