Did you enjoy his performance in the movie?

There should have been a scene where him and emo Tobey meet, and do a tit for tat thing where they act progressively worse to each other. And of course they tip their hats to each other as a joke about it

He wasn't the right person for that role. Even he thought as much.

Perfect comedic actor for that comedy movie,

He was Carnage, tbh

I love how he scoffs at Peter climbing flagpoles

He was absolutely horrible as Eddie Brock/Venom; Raimi absolutely butchered that character. Eric Foreman should have stayed on That 70s Show where he belonged.

Gotta get rid of Scotty.

Venom was a much bigger problem for Spiderman in the books. He actually stalked him for a long time as a shadow or a dark hand coming off panel to mess with him. That went on for SEVERAL issues before Venom revealed himself. It's actually an oft forgot beloved chapter in Spiderman's life.

He liked being bad. It made him happy.

Assuming I'm remembering the right movie, I found that part when he met Flint Marko to be hilarious. Hearing his normal voice instantly brought me back to Eric Forman, and one of the last guys who should be playing Eddie Brock.

I couldn't see him passed That 70's Show and I didn't even watch that show.

This side of him worked oddly well for Predators IMO. Which is a great movie that was rather hastily edited towards the end.

Oh yeah, he was pretty cool in Predators. I agree.

Had potential but, as iconic as the church scene is, the fact that he went and ASKED GOD TO KILL PETER is utterly absurd.

He could've been fine in the role but the script hurts him the most out of everyone. In a movie with too many characters, he gets the least development of them all.

The way they cast him in that, I kind of get the feeling he was the #2 pick for Peter Parker in the first place by Raimi. He'd make a ton more sense as Peter than Eddie. It seems they were trying to turn the Eddie Brock character into more of a 'mirror' of Toby's Peter, rather than actually doing Eddie Brock.

I actually loved that part, I thought it was hilarious. But you're right about his development. Also, they should have had his voice behind his filter, and Topher should have done a different performance when talking as Venom. Basically what Tom Hardy ended up doing, as far as being different when in full Venom. Would have helped. And also just to cut Sandman out. One or the other at least.

He was awful in both sides of the performance.

Imagine playing Venom and saying "I" instead of "we"

That's like the easiest, most significant detail to get right.

Like I've always said, Tobey is a great Peter and terrible Spider-man. Topher could have pulled off both roles.

I cant see Topher as Spiderman. I enjoyed Tobeys performance as Spiderman.

I see what Raimi was trying to do by making him a douchier Peter in that he's just as awkward and dorky, but a lot more of a self-centered prick. And Topher Grace was probably fine for a version of the character like that.

But I don't think it really worked out too well in the end.
