A few years ago the Pennsylvania Turnpike I-76 scraped the toll collectors at the booths and decided that if you didn't have an EZ pass, they would just send you a bill in the mail by your license plate.

In my experience I'd say there's about a 40% chance that you won't even receive the toll bill in the mail.

The PA Turnpike Commission estimates $105 million in unpaid tolls just from last year alone.

what an awful idea this was

Orange County, CA has this whole idiotic system for county-owned roads. It's like an EZ pass but worse. Expensive as hell too, we were looking to move to a place and would have had to commute on Rt 73 and it would have added up to like $300 per month.

Fortunately, thanks to COVID and such, I haven't even had to bother taking toll roads since they implemented that stupid feature. And even if I do go somewhere that would require it, I just take the non-toll route now.

I always got a bill in the mail years ago when I didn't have ezpass. Massachusetts never missed one.

I do, mostly from when I took the turnpike on roughly a weekly basis, and my account is till active.

But my girlfriend and my cousin, both of whom have only used toll roads a small handful of times in the last few years, had little need to open an maintain an EZPass account just out of rarity. Between the two of them, 6 of 15 total invoices were just plain never received in the last 3 years or so

How many miles would you be traveling on that road to add up to $300/mo? Yikes

I see people with tinted plate covers sometimes and I have no idea why that's not illegal
