Why they focus on Peter Parkers parents at all. Does anyone actually like that plot line?

That was a weird flex that they tried to push so hard.

I think they were trying to mix in some of the stuff from the Ultimate Spider-Man (There was an arc where Peter finds old lab work. Leads to Ultimate Venom) but it doesnt work as well on screen as its only part of an idea.

Yeah I outright don't care about his parents being secret agents or scientists who worked on Venom or whatever other crap they've come up with over the years. Ultimate Spider-man is probably the best way it has been done but even then it's meh.

I'm surprised they've never done any twists with Uncle Ben thinking about it. They just can't leave stuff alone.

So is Norman Osborne impregnating Gwen Stacey. Sometimes it's better to leave stuff in the comics.

Apparently in the third one it would be revealed that the dad intended for Peter to become Spiderman.

It's all a really contrived plot line that distracts from the actual characters.

This sums up why these plots often bother me.

Peter Parker being bit should feel like a random chance that could happen to anyone.

When you start involving conspiracies with his parents then it leads to him being a superhero an inevitability instead of a coincidence. We already see lots of people in his social circle ending up as super villains or tied to them in some way.

Yeah much of the appeal of Spider-Man is that anybody could be Spider-Man. He's supposed to be an average guy who, by pure chance, got an opportunity to become a superhero.

Though I believe the comics go back and forth on whether or not Peter was "destined" to become Spider-Man.

nah, the appeal of Spider-Man is he's a superhero that's down to earth like a regular person, not a regular person who acts like a superhero.

Thats so stupid. I think they even imply in ASM2 that his dad was making the spiders genetically compatible with Peters blood or something.

Awful, awful writing.

When they did it in the comics and when they did it in STAS, I hated it. I do not give one crap about his parents and it needs to stay away from the movies.

Reminds me of my friends idea for a universe where Peter is actually Captain America's grandson or someshit and the only reason he was compatible with the spider powers was because of latent SSS.

nah, you just refused to think about it.

besides, if everyone could be a Spider-Man then where the heck are they?

the only place "everyone can be a Spider-Man" is technicallycorrect is the multiverse when a pig becomes Spider-Ham or a car named Peter Parkedcar becomes the Spider-Car. and that's different than "regular joe can be a Spider-Man"

Not sure what you mean. Both versions of Harry were pretty different. The one in ASM2 was a weird mashup of both Osborns though.

I figured that just a writer trying to be edgy for the sake of edgy. Like the time they made X-23 an underage prostitute for no reason. Glad both were sort of retconned and will likely never be brought up again.

Funny how No way home kinda fixes one of the worst Spider-Man stories ever though. Was pretty bold of them to take that one on in the first place.

there was an old joke, "if wolverine is a girl, she'd be virgin forever because her hymen will regenerate, and that would be a great asset as a prostitute!"
...
and then some dumb writer had to make it canon with X-23.

You're taking it way too literally.

When people say anybody can be Spider-Man, it just means you don't have to be a billionaire or a decorated war veteran to take on the role. Nothing about Peter Parker is "special" outside of his determination and moral backbone.

The whole reason he was designed with a full-mask in the first place is so that anybody could imagine themselves in the role (as stated by Stan Lee himself).

having a mutant spider bit him is not a special afterall, i guess?

I can see why considering how unexplored they are in lore. Plus i think the ultimate series was doing something with them and it followed suit.

But ultimately it just made a very bloated movie even more so in the end.

They turned him into a silly, disfigured imp again. And actually in ASM2, they clearly drew on Topher Grace's Venom as well.

It is pretty funny when people misinterpret the concept of 'anyone can be a hero / the president / etc.' Did they not ever watch 'Ratatouille?'

The worst part is both ASM movies start with this horrible plot line and it sours the tone from the beginning. Its probably the biggest reason why I cant get into either of them.
