The way this site moderates it is that if a character looks like a child and is being sexualized, it's offensive regardless of that character's age in the game/anime/manga/etc. The '900 year old witch' stuff doesn't work.

Also if a character in the story of the game/anime/manga/etc is underaged, you can't sexualize that character even if they are drawn in a style that makes them look adult.

Not a huge fan over how much Japan over sexualizes minors, but several things to note against the CE prudish narrative:

1. Shonen is not marketed for adults, it's marketed towards teens and Hollywood has been sexualizing ACTUAL teenagers in live action format and marketed it to grown ass adults for years now (Mean Girls, literally any series where they cast hot 25 yr olds as HSers, which is pretty much always) while anime is at least doing it to fictional characters.

2. Asia has different beauty standards than the west and Asian women can be hyper petite, which makes it hard to verify age based on body type. There are actual adult Japanese women who are 85lbs, sub 5' tall, flat chested, and when drawn, are going to look super young to a western audience.

Asian women also age freakishly well and a lot can look a full decade younger than they are.

I've seen 30 something yr old Asian chicks IRL who could pass as a HSers possibly even middle school due to being small and having zero wrinkles, meanwhile someone from Lucy from FT was 17 at the start of the series, despite being built like a western pornstar...

3. I haven't watched the series in question they're talking about, but anime sexualizing literally CHILDREN is almost non-existent. It's usually just adults or older teens above the AoC in Japan with an art style that can make them look young (and again, Asian women can look extremely young so it's pretty odd to say what does and doesn't look like explicit pedo bait).

4. There is no evidence anything fictional leads to anything IRL. This is a video game forum ffs, you would think gamers of all people would understand this. Gears of War is about as likely to make you chainsaw someone in half as Mean Girls is to make you hit on HSers. Fiction is fiction.

I hate most loli crap, but the fact that I have to come to OTs defense because of how overblown this outrage is, is ridiculous.

Fiction affects reality whether you like it or not. The human mind is easily impressionable to do stuff they see, especially in regards to sex.

It does demonstrate why "child pornography" is a term best reserved for pornography of actual children though. Certain people are doing their damnedest to water the word "pedophile" down in this same way and it's a shame that actual crimes are conflated with anything the speaker happens to find distasteful.

This kinda happened with the word, "racist" over the years from when I was a child. That used to be a serious accusation but it got used so much that it lost any semblance of power it had. Now, it's just a generic insult.

Do we have evidence that indulgence in fiction produces an increased likelihood of enacting it in the real world? I'd assume that of anything, providing an outlet for mentally ill people likely proves to decrease such acts, whether violence or sexual violence.

Like, my biggest detriment to my enjoyment of Fire Force is them having a fan service character whose entire existence seems to revolve around an inability to stay dressed, to the point the laws of physics don't have a say. Agreed 100%. And Fire Force was actually the first anime that came to my mind too. Tamaki's "curse" really ruins what would otherwise be a simple, but fun watch. I kept thinking that they were finally going to make her a serious character when she'd get in a fight, but nope, even in a life or death situation, she ends up losing her clothes somehow

This one gets even worse when they pair her against a critic surrogate character who tells her she's being too lewd and that she should be banned and stop existing during their fight.

You quoted what I just said? Obscenity is UN-protected speech. Depictions of virtual child porn are not allowed if they're obscene. Obsenity is determined by what 'the average person' would find offensive. It's not an outright ban, but if it were to go to courts the vast majority of people would consider any loli content obscene. It was from a Ruroni Kenshin anime revival topic on the anime/manga board. There was a guy who made the OST for the Death Note anime and got a harsher sentence for possession of Marjuana then the Mangaka for Ruroni Kenshin who was in posession of CP. Some users were pointing out Japan's standards were dumb and then that's when users started making the claim about Marjuana being worst than CP.
