I have a 2019 Altima SR and get free oil changes for 7 years or 14 total changes; anyways, Im having a coffee in the cafeteria and one of employees walks up me.

They upsold my ass to a 2022 Midnight Edition Altima SR.

$0 down and my monthly only went up $25.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Prices are so fucked, you probably could have gotten an upgrade for even less money.

This.

I told my dad to buy a Honda back in 2006. he didn't listen and got a shitty nissan.

80k miles later the transmission is dead. the engine is falling out, and parts of the car keep needing repair.

meanwhile my (Honda) Acura is still going strong with 260,000 miles.

This is why you get oil changes from the certified dealer. When's the last time you got a brand new car at marginal expense from a jiffy lube?

Never had any issues with Nissan. My 2010 Murano is getting up to 130k miles and haven't ever had a major issue with it. Maybe not the sexiest car in the world though. That thing's been to 17 national parks and has seen Canada, Mexico, and both oceans.

biggest issue with Nissans are the transmission. if you have the CVT transmission or even an automatic its gonna die eventually. standard you're probably ok.

You sound like youre really bad at making financial decisions but feel like youre good at it.

You traded in a car youve been making payments on for 3 years so you can pay more to keep paying for however many years it will be now.

And its not even a new version of the model, 2019s and 2022s are the same car, aside from minor year over year changes.

Newer Nissans in general don't have the best reliability. Anything 08 and down are built rock solid after 08 is when they started having various issues. A 2000-ish Maxima will last you forever, and still look good after all these years.

dealers are taking advantage of the subscription mindset many people have cuz of netflix, etc.

"its only 500 a month!" "Oh i can do that oh boy!"
meanwhile the car is 50,000k and you're paying 7% interest on the loan.

Yeah, this pissed me off when I went to replace my car that was totaled.

I was specifically looking for a car in a certain price range, something less than $16k. But the dealer kept going back to how much I wanted my monthly payment to be.

I told him I didn't give a crap about the monthly payment. I had a budget to pay off my car in three years and I'd make that work. He kept telling me that a low monthly payment can get me a much better car than my current strategy.

I'm like bub, I don't want to pay $250 a month for eight years for an overly-fancy car that I just drive to work every day. I'd rather a larger monthly payment that I can pay the car off faster.

I literally paid my car off two years after I bought it. I hate being in debt.

All financial things aside, I am curious how they were able to steer the conversation from "I'd like an oil change" to "Thanks for the new car!"

Its the second time they approached me. The last time I didnt give them the time of day. Last time they offered 1k UNDER what the car was worth.

But this time I had already had two electrical issues fixed via warranty (car was about to hit 3 years old and was just under 30k miles) and they offered me 2k more than it was worth.

They originally had me for a 22 Altima SR for $20 bucks cheaper but I then saw the midnight edition and went with that instead.

You bought a 2022 Altima when you already had a working 2019 Altima. Certainly not a wise financial decision.

Ok? I wanted the car. I make the money where the payment doesnt even come close to hurting. Its bad I should want something newer?

Dealerships do that shit all the time. Do you know how many times when I get an oil change in my Jeep SRT they try to talk me into a Trackhawk? I just say "Is it free?"..lol

I always buy my cars outright. I wait till car is one year old and find a fully loaded model that never sold. Then second they roll out the newest models I talk them down in price by showing the same model car at other dealerships for way cheaper. Insisting the "add ons" mean nothing to me. I always get the other dealerships way lower price for the fully decked out one.

I make "payments" into a savings account with high interest. To get the cash, while owning the superior cars.

With this system I buy a brand new convertible and truck every 4 years (2 years of each other) and save $100,000's from lack of interest and increased insurance rates. Plus I get huge discounts selling them back to dealerships because of them being best models and fully loaded.

This topic is peak CE. Yeah it's not as good a decision as financing a used car but it's better than buying a car outright and not improving your credit.
