And so it made me feel like "I'll get the last laugh on them and really do something" a bit. But now I just live an ordinary unfulfilling life. We're all shaped by thousands of minor variables and influences we may never consciously recognize, molding us into the people we eventually become. Even worse, there've been studies to suggest that the main core of our personalities are formed before we even turn 5 years old. So most of the things that make us who we are happen before we have any real power to influence them or make our own choices, and become extremely difficult to even remember by the time we actually become old enough to be introspective about things. For whatever reason, I've always been very laid back about the future. I don't really obsess over what is yet to come nor do I get overly emotionally hung up on what's already been. I tend to live in the moment rather than plan out elaborate assumptions about where I'll be in 5 years or what I want to grow up to be, and I've always kind of been that way. My motivations have always mostly just been wanting to have a job that I don't hate, that allows me to keep a roof over my head (and a place to keep my stuff), keep food in my belly, and generally experience interesting and stimulating things. So I mostly just try to make sure that I enjoy each day as it comes, and do my best to avoid regretting the things I've done and choices I've made. I feel like "winning" is basically just being able to look back on your life from your death bed, and being able to honestly say that you've had more good days than bad. Anything more than that is a bonus. Fortunately, things have always worked out pretty well for me, and I'm fairly happy with the life I've led. And everybody would always be watching. And you couldn't get stuff wrong... But I did get minor fame once. I got hurt at work, and they made a QA flash about it. When I went to a shadowrun game that had some people from base, I mentioned my finger and the QA flash. And someof them had seen it around. But I have always been pretty popular. In school, it was because I was short, people knew who I was. And then I got more popular from being gay in my senior year... At work, I'm popular from being short, being in debrief for forever, and because I've been at the base for forever, as well... Metalsonic66 posted... In some ways it feels like yesterday, in others it feels like a lifetime ago. I really don't think the world is the same. Or the people. I really don't like the people around now. Seems like everything is getting cheaper(and not in cost), dumber, and as if the adults all left the building. I'm kinda just watching now. I'm pretty sure something bad is going to happen soon. But either way I'm gonna be fine. I can hide away in my little corner of the world while all the news happens and nothing changes in my life. Reminds me of my German grandma. Her mom told her that during WW2 they were just cow farmers and stayed cow farmers the entire time. Everybody talks this and that and all she knew was feeding and tending to cows. That's kinda how I feel. I think people have lost their minds. I'm just gonna go live in my own world until people grow up. When I went to school for software development, I had this idea it'd be for more of the game development side of things... and I know there's still all time and opportunity for it to happen... but...
