I remember a few, but Mad Jack from DK64 is the biggest bitch of them all. I think having the strategy guide for the game messed me up because it recommended avoiding his attacks by flying diagonally between platforms.when it's much easier just to outrun him. Funnily enough, he's the only boss in the game that doesn't unlock a new area, so I beat 90% of the game before beating him.

Had a similar experience but what I did at first was completely ignore materia. I was like yeah this seems annoying why bother with this. That worked up to the Shinra HQ elevator bosses where I just didn't have enough firepower to beat them, then realized maybe I shouldn't have ignored it and had to start the whole game over cause there was no way to adjust it where I'd saved.

The last bosses of the original Ninja Gaiden. I think maybe I beat the first part once but didn't last against Jaquio at all in part 2.

Not really a "boss" per se, but I was stuck on the Test of Fear in Star Fox Adventures for a really long time.

Sarevok, in Baldur's Gate 1, did often until I learned the cheese tactics.

The boss of the cowboy level in Time Lord on the NES.

It wasn't particularly hard, but he was a fucking bullet sponge, and the whole game had a time limit (around 25 minutes to do the whole thing), so even when I got past him I'd end up with a game over not that long afterwards because of how long it took me to kill him.

Actraiser 2to this day I cannot beat it. Death Field, Gratis, and the Tower of Souls were all my Achilles Heels.

IG-88 in Shadows of the Empire, for some reason.

The train level was muddy as hell, so it was kinda hard to distinguish enemies at times, boss arena has you looking for this tiny ass robot in a pretty big room, and he will blast the fuck out of you.

Even Bubble Fett was easier.

Barinade in Ocarina of Time was the first video game boss I had to look up a guide for because I wanted to beat the game. For other games with harder bosses at the time I straight up stopped playing the game because 10 year old and younger me had the attention span of a gnat

I beat him the same day that I first encountered him, but I remember I being an incredible pain in the ass at the time

Cyndaquil is actually the easiest starter to take down Miltank. Granted, a kid is less likely to understand the usefulness of Smokescreen (I sure didn't) than an adult. Only reason I didn't get wiped was because I got a lucky burn.

Bison in Street Fighter 2 always kicked my ass.
