This is now what an overturned moderation is called. I had a puzzling moderation yesterday and I disputed it because it seems like a misunderstanding between my post and the initial mod. Reversing it was absolutely the correct decision but I did not have much faith in the system or staff to make it right. They did however, so the rare stories I hear about reversal are validated. The system does work sometimes at least, and I thank the moderators who voted and took the time to look at the information and make a decision based on it rather than "lol UPHOLD!" by default.

I've had it happen before but this was the first time since recent changes. The last one was a few years ago before the "modstaff voting" system happened. It is validating to see that system work correctly, because it confirms that it can be :P

I was told they don't bother reading dispute messages and just uphold it. Did a new system change that?

In this case, yes. In all likelihood, the results would have been the same at any point in history (the moderation made no sense). In this system, it's more validating though because it means a majority of them looked at it and were like "yeah that's not a violation" whereas in the old system, it would have been 1-2 additional mods and at most an admin looking at it. So in this case, it was more a community deciding the original moderator got it wrong as a whole, but with the old system, I would have been relying on 1-3 individuals. I do think this is a net positive in this context. It shows more mod accountability.
