We used to slice garlic bread at the dinner table on a regular ocassion. We'd just lay the whole loaf in the middle of the table with a bread knife you wanted a piece you had to cut a piece off

yeah bread slicers are in many grocery stores, idk what the fascination is. a lot of times you have to take it to the clerk to cut it though, as they are behind the counter (because people would but other shit like watermelons in them and jam them up -- i used to work in a grocery store bakery)

Huh, automatic bread slicer. That's neat. I assumed from the topic title they would be doing it by hand using some tool.

I also would have expected there to be some sort of paper you're supposed to use to handle the bread. That's how most baked goods places are around here.

You can buy pre-sliced bread, so slicing your own bread isn't necessary.

Not sure what the advantage of this is.

This confuses the fuck out of me because if you go to mainland Europe they hardly slice bread at all.

You just by big loafs in Germany or France.

Pre-sliced bread feels like a UK/US thing.

When I was in Germany I never saw a cashier slice your bread for you.

That seems...weird. Like you're a small child asking your mutter.

Either buy a loaf of sliced bread or buy a generic loaf and slice it yourself at home.

I'm not surprised that people with such enterprising solutions to lawn cutting as "light it on fire" would use a fucking bread slicer for watermelon.

That's been my experience at the least.

The "Neat little sandwich" thing is very US/UK in my experience. Europe is just more "OMG Bread, cheese and meat, in mah mouth, right now. omnomnomnom" with less care to the design of the vehicle.

In fairness, I don't really understand the idea behind buying presliced bread at the store. Like if it's some gross chemically treated softbread you make toast out of, fine, but if it's just my general eating bread for the week or half week to come, I'd rather slice it myself when the need arises and prevent as much as possible hardening of the innards.

I also don't milk my own cow or die from dysentery
