I worked retail management and loss prevention before I went back to college. I transitioned several retail drug stores across the East Coast back in the 90s after a corporate buy out. I know retail.

Let me tell you flat out...

No one should EVER be working a store by themselves. Not ever.

Dont let some penny pinching corporate management tell you otherwise. Do not work a store by yourself.

For bigger stores yes. Idk how big her store is, but a furniture store having one employee seems quite reasonable.

Yeah, you can tell people who've never worked in a retail store. Hell, the "correct" way to leave a McDonald's is that you're supposed to have one person leave while everyone else stays inside with one person holding their phone. The person that left is supposed to drive around the parking lot to make sure it's clear, then signal the rest to come out. Only when everyone is in their car are you meant to leave.
