31 y/o Father of 2, DJ Ferguson is DEVASTATED and gravely ill after he was taken off the TOP of the DONOR list for a heart transplant at a Boston Hospital because he "does NOT believe" in the COVID vaccine and believes it is a HOAX his own father, David is PROUD he's sticking to his guns because he would rather DIE a man with integrity and principles than be injected with something SINISTER!!

The father sobbed uncontrollably after learning the hospital would not give him the donor heart despite being placed FIRST and to now at the BOTTOM. He has a hereditary heart condition that causes his lungs and hear to fill with blood and fluid and was denied b Boston Brigham and Women's Hospital, a teaching hospital at Harvard Medical School

They said they removed him because all transplant recipients needed to get the vaccine in order to create the best chance for a successful operation and also the patient's survival after transplantation

His father, David said getting vaccinated is "kind of against his basic principles" and that his son doesn't believe it. He said "I think my boy is fighting pretty damn courgaeously and he has his integrity and principles he really believes in and that makes me respect him all the more..it's his body. it's his choice and i love him so much he is willing to die on his principles rather than let someone tell him what to do"

The hospital has a list of protocols including a ban on lifestyle choices like smoking and alcohol and requiring a covid vaccine is common at many medical centres seen across the country where other recipients who need organs but are denied over the vaccine

The mortality rate for transplant recipients who fall ill with covid more than 20%

David said "My son has gone to the edge of death to stick to his guns and he's been pushed to the limit"

They are now considering transferring him to another hospital but his wife, Heather said he may be too weak to move at this point

She said "At this point, DJ is unable to leave the hospital until he gets the heart surgery he needs. Without the surgery his lungs and heart will continue to fill up with blood and fluid"

Dr. Arthur Caplan said vaccination is a requirement for transplants because after receiving a new organ, patient's immune system are esentially switched off and said "The flu could kill you. a cold could kill you. covid could kill you. The organs are scarce, we are not going to distribute them to someone who has a poor chance of living with others who are vaccinated have a better chance post surgery of surviving"

But DJ said sobbingly is not budging and will stand by his christian convictions and not take something he knows will NOT work and not take the risk that he knows will make him worse off in the future and that same sentiment is felt by his family.

So which is it, is he willing to let them cut him open, implant another person's heart into him and spend the rest of his life on an anti rejection drug regimen, or does he have "Christian convictions". If he's that much of a fundamentalist, then heart transplants are right out too.

I just absolutely can't understand the thinking of these people.

He would be happy to receive a new heart. I don't know the specifics but I think I have heard before that you have to take loads of medications after having a transplant to help your body accept the new organ. He's happy to have an entire organ placed in his body and to take all of the medications that goes with that but he doesn't want to take the 'risk' of getting the vaccine?

What's the risk involved with not getting the heart transplant?

Yep. Had he survived the transplant, (there is always the possibility of dying in surgery) he would need a daily regimen of anti rejection medications to prevent the immune system from attacking the foreign body, for the rest of his life.

In most cases I agree but in the case of transplants there are more people in need than there are organs - in that case the organs should go to people who aren't gonna go and throw their lives away on an illness that has a vaccine available. Someone else could die because they don't get the heart that this guy's going and then he won't even take a simple step to protect his life after that.

They've already had rules surrounding stuff like not drinking or smoking while you're on the transplant list, I don't see this as any different.

Not all Christians are Catholic, but I agree with the overall point. If he's okay with getting a heart transplant and taking all the drugs that go with it, he should be okay with the vaccine.

Using "Christian values" as a scapegoat for their ignorance is tiny dick energy. They don't have the spine to stand up and announce how dumb they are, so they hide behind their religion even though there's nothing in their religion preventing them from being vaccinated.

Imagine if he got the heart transplant and then contracted covid and died. What a complete waste of a precious resource. It's selfish for him to not be vaccinated, to not be giving his wife and children the best possible chance of having a husband and father, respectively.

I'm far from the perfect dad, but I can't imagine failing my kids this hard on something so simple.

OK, but hospitals have an obligation to save EVERY life that they can. Except this one decided that this man should die, literally signing his death warrant just to grandstand for a vaccine.

Whether he dies or not, I hope the family sues the hospital to hell and back.

And the hospital still can. True that doctors are supposed to adhere to the Hippocratic Oath, but that doesn't mean they're required to risk wasting a healthy heart on a patient who can't make the effort to ensure they're the best candidate for that heart. They didn't deny the patient wholesale. They only moved him down the list.

When someone seeks a gastric bypass, which in some cases is a surgical procedure crucial to improving one's life expectancy, they are often tasked with making changes to their diet and meeting weight loss milestones before they are allowed to get the surgery, in order to improve the odds that the patient will thrive and succeed and continue making better health choices post-op. This heart transplant is no different. They want the dude to live a long life with the heart he's being given. The least he could do is improve the chances he won't drop dead of covid a year after receiving the heart.

The patient signed his own death warrant through his failure to make himself a prime candidate for the transplant.

It's less "grandstanding for a vaccine" (phenomenally dumb take btw) and more standing up for making certain the organ goes to the best possible candidate who will appreciate the opportunity and make the effort to improve their own life to make full use of the heart, hopefully living out a long, full, and content life.

You don't know much about candidacy for transplants if you think this. Many, many people could use that organ. You get sent to the back of the line for a transplant for a wide variety of reasons. In order to maximize the reduction in waste of organs (aka, maximize the help/life-saving capabilities of the system), the system prioritizes candidates based on their likelihood to, you know, not waste the organ by fucking dying from a disease they could have vaccinated themselves against. This factor in organ allocation is, I think, called "medical utility."

So that organ will go to someone else, someone less likely to die of COVID-19, thereby wasting the organ.

Anyone who thinks this guy would have a valid lawsuit against the hospital is nuts. You can be removed or moved from the donor list for any number of reasons which include not being properly vaccinated. They don't want to give organs to people who won't take care of them or themselves. It's a waste of an organ.

Imagine that you could possibly live to see your kids grow up but you choose suicide by Covid instead.
