In restaurants it's always so good even if it's just white or brown with nothing crazy going on.

But making it in the rice cooker just gives it like 0 flavor and is often times slightly too hard

If it's too hard you're probably not using enough water

Are you seasoning it enough?

Ye, you're not using enough water.

Otherwise, use chili oil.

Came here to say this.

If you're watching cals just go light on butter or skip it all together. The broth alone makes it sooo good

Are you using too much? Well, whatever. To each his own.
Salsa in lieu of water + rice makes spanish rice which is extremely good.

For whatever reason outside of baked breads butter doesn't really work for me on food. I don't like it on crab or lobster either.

There are these incredible things called butter, sauces and spices.

Try using some. Do you think they just cook the rice and serve it plain? It's usually seasoned, and/or paired with a protein/veggies/pasta or something.

Also make sure you get the right amount of water. Too much makes em soggy. Too little will make it hard or burn.

And there is more then just white rice btw.

There are many types of rice that have different tastes. Some are nuttier, some are more neutral, some are floral, some are naturally buttery. Restaurants usually stick with the rice that their cuisine is known for, so look there for new varieties to try out on your own.

Sesame oil, soy sauce, and vegetable broth are some good starting points for flavorings. A light touch goes a long way, especially with sesame oil. You can toast your rice with some garlic and onion before steaming as well.

For me, and this is just me, I rinse the rice really good. In a pan I toss together some peanut oil, chipotle seasoning, cumin, garlic, and honey or sugar just to cut out some of the heat from the chipotle. After its toasted I'll add it to the uncooked rice, add water and canned san marzano tomatoes. After its done I'll either add an egg or just some salt.

God... I might make that tomorrow. Making me hungry just thinking about it.

Wild rice is great. It smells like old shoes, but it tastes awesome.

Yeah was gonna say this also. A bit of vegetable stock works fine too for those vegans/vegetarians.
